Finally someone that does image and audio comparisons while shooting the same exact thing. It really annoys me when reviewers shoot from completely different angles, times or even locations in extreme cases and then comments on how similar or different things are. This was one of the most practical and logical reviews I have seen in a long time. Keep it up please :)

Small correction about the Session 4 and Session 5 comparison. After a firmware upgrade the Session 4 also allows you to change photo and video modes directly on the device. Advanced settings still have to be changed through the app (max ISO, Protune, etc).

Very good video. Yet, I watched two other videos comparing the Hero 5 to the Virb. The audio tests were completely different. The Virb crushed the Hero 5. Also the use of the screen and the actual layout of the screen. So not sure whose being truthful here.

Awesome review! Only thing I disagree with is the opinion that the audio quality is "close" between the Hero 5 Black and the Garmin. To me, Hero 5 Black wins that hands down, and it isn't even close. Garmin sounds "tinny" and unrefined. Hero 5 Black is fuller and more realistic. Thanks for a great review!

you can make all the overlays to display gps data even with a gopro. you juat have to track your ride with a gps and then use the recorded data with garmin video editor. worked for me!

I think you are a GoPro guy. The Garmin voice works much better than on the GoPro. My Opinion.

FYI: In the 4 session you can change camera settings, etc. using the small button on the back. I just did it yesterday. Thanks for the video. How do the 5 black vs. session compare with image quality? Hard to tell from this.

Thanks for the nice review. One thing should be mentioned (maybe it already has)...the "linear" field of view mode is not available at 4K.

For a motorcyclist with gloves... the Garmin Virb touchscreen is much easier to handle with gloves, it's not about how the design looks like, as you said "crunky and slow" it's really ways better for motorcyclists. The Go Pro 5 touchscreen "buttons" are to small, you have to take your gloves off and in the rain...just forget it! Hope to help some bikers out there.

I'm a scuba diver looking to purchase my first action camera. For me screen size is important as I need to make sure I'm capturing the aquatic action that I want. Which camera (ultra 30 or Hero 5) has the largest view screen? I see GoPro says their screen is 2in. but I also see that the screen isn't 100% viewable as it has GoPro graphics on the side of that screen.

Im looking at session 5 vs hero black 5. I use it in the snow both helmet mounted and pole mounted. I love the idea of the smallness of the session but have concerns the image quality won't bet there and also battery life will be short. I would love to hear your throughs.
