I'm a first time fish owner, I still am setting up my tank and I'm not getting a heater. These recommendations have been really helpful, thank you so much

I dont like heater either
Heater is expensive and it cost me a lot of money for electricity bill.

I'm so envious of people living with properly air conditioned/heated homes (or air conditioned/heated fish rooms) who find heaters aren't needed. My heating has no thermostat making it very difficult to maintain the ambient temperature. I'd still need a heater to protect even cold water fish during the winter and there's always a risk of cold water fish suffering in the summer when I can't cool down my home. Rented accommodation in a temperate climate sucks!

Go with the Cloud tank! They're so underrated. Rachel O'Leary keeps them in her hill stream tank at tropical temperatures so they should be okay in your home too.

When I was in the fifth grade my teacher let us each keep a guppy in a 2 liter cut in half. My fish lived all the way till the end of the year. I was walking to the bus and dropped it. I think it taught me what remorse felt like. only like 5 of us had guppies to take home so I thought that was pretty cool. I always added water and took some out with the same pippet guess the chlorine didn't kill it.

My guppies and my corys are in cold water, and the summer, they are in my garden. They are very healthy and enjoy their heavily planted tank, with no filter (biological filtration). I will put them back at home at the end of the summer. I won't recommend this for every fish, because if you do that with a betta, you can kill it, but with guppies and some breed of corys, it's perfectly possible, and I live in Europe, it's not so warm.

I live in Scotland... my room is pretty much always at 8 degrees Celsius that’s like 46 degrees in Fahrenheit.

So I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to get a heater regardless

Rosy barb
Reticulated hillstream loaches
Rosy red minnows (often sold as feeder fish)
Buenos Aires tetra
Scleromastic Barbatus (corydora relative)
Celestial pearl danios
Variatus platies
Are some other options. I keep most of them between 65 & 74 degrees throughout the year

Goldfish thrive at temperatures between 65 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit, which is roughly room temperature or slightly below. When temperatures are too high,  goldfish may become sluggish and overheat. At temperatures below 60 degrees, they may stop eating or become lethargic.
