What's really happening:
- you pay for 600 Mbs down and 190 mbs up or the company is trying to slow your speed only through your router---(which would be really dumb on their part) so you only get 100 down and 80 up.
- you see the speed increase because the hardware of the ISP provider is trash while the Netgear has a better processor, memory and storage.

look, this is awesome. I understand the capabilities of Wifi 6 and the newer devices of today that support it....
However, the smartest tech guys will tell you, you simply cannot get 4x the speed you are paying for. You can't get double the speeds you are paying for. We both know that is impossible.
You only get the speed YOU PAY FOR. So I have to say Im very confused.

The thing that matters most at a router is the CPU cores that it has, so if you want a better management of the internet speed and to deal the multitude of the devices that are connected at all time in your home or office, nowadays it has to be a minimum of triple core CPU. Also, to gain that speed, the devices have to be modern ax receivers like iphone 12-14 or the latest models of any smartphone/laptop/TV. Most of the printers and cameras are stil in the 2.4ghz area. So a double band is needed for all your devices to work flawlesly.

Torogi ... The wifi-cable modem your ISP gives you is a bottleneck. Your PC hardlined into your modem will get the speeds you pay for. Your wifi devices will usually go at the standard of your 802.11 that is baked in. So most likely N. That usually only tops out at 100Mbps. Your new AX router can usually top out at 300+ Mbps. I'm betting if you ran Speed Test on your hardlined PC to your ISP modem, you will get those high speeds again, they probably raised your speeds without making your pay more. Meaning you are getting better internet infrastructure in your area.

Your best bet is to get rid of the ISP wifi-cable modem entirely. Get your own cable modem like an Motorola Arris Surfboard or something like that. Then plug your new wifi router into that. That way your ISP can not bottleneck you. The only time you are completely stuck with what they provide you is if you do a triple play package... Cable/Internet/Phone.
But if you are a cord cutter like me and also don't need a home phone because you have a cell phone, save the the charges on your bill for renting their equipment.

I have Spectrum Internet here in the States. If you use their all in one box, they can make changes to your settings. They promote you can connect to any Spectrum router you happen by. Say you are walking your dog down the road, you could have your phone out set to wifi only, and you would be hopping from neighbor to neighbor's wifi hotspot. Or say you are in an area in the suburbs with huge plots of land, your neighbor could be out in their back yard that is far from his house, but kinda close to yours. His phone or tablet would jump onto your wifi (yes, without the passcode) and still be able to surf the net.
You can try locking it down (I sure and heck don't want moochers on my network, slowing bandwidth down that I pay for) but your ISP can open you back up. They have backdoors into their equipment. Buy your own cable modem and separate wifi router and they can not do jack.

Finally, wifi radios can degrade over time / get bottlenecked by your ISP if you use their equipment. My In-laws have a triple play package. My MIL's PC worked fine due to it being hardlined into the wifi-cable modem. All the other PCs and tablets and cell phones were getting very slow speeds over wifi, less than 25 Mbps. Now add 20 visiting family members into the mix with all those devices and now being forced to have actual face to face conversations with people due to the slow downs. They are in a rural area but have great speeds 500 Mbps if hardlined into the modem. I did what you did here, shut off the wifi from the ISP's cable modem, plugged in a new AX router and BOOM, every wireless device we ran a speed test on now gets better than 300 Mbps and no one is chugging along with movies always buffering or MMO games being unplayable.

A couple of questions for you...If the devices in my home are not WiFi 6 capable will this still bypass the paid Mbps I have with my ISP? You should probably do a follow-up video with non WiFi 6 devices to see if you're getting that kinda speeds. Second question, will the Ethernet cable give you speeds like that if configured from your ISP router to the Netgear then to you desktop PC or laptop? Please provide tests like this. Tks!

That’s pretty crazy! The only way I can see this being possible is that your ISP uses the router they provided to set the speed. So the internet coming into your house has had that speed the whole time, but the router was the bottleneck; either through software limits or by just using a cheap router with slow hardware. I wonder if you called your ISP for an internet speed upgrade if they would come replace your router, I think they would, if I had to guess.

I’m curious if you plugged in a PC or laptop with decent ethernet capabilities directly into your original router, would the speed also be just as fast?

I am not sure how your “netgear” wifi 6 router manage to override the ISP controls to get X4 the 100mb internet speed from your provider. Or this is just marketing video for us to buy Netgear routers ????

The stock router the ISP provides you is a bottleneck. If you pay for 300mbps plan, then you might consider investing on a Wifi 6 router to maximize the internet speed you are paying for.
