These cases are patients who I, or my colleagues have seen. They are de-identified and many instances have been presented in more depth in an academic setting. These videos are not individual medical advice and are for general educational purposes only. I do not give medical advice over the internet.

Shoutout to RJ's friends for realizing what was happening and taking the appropriate steps.

His friends saved his life. I'm glad they were aware, some people are oblivious to their surroundings.

I am incredibly amazed that the doctors picked up on what was happening with the chemical reactions. To learn those specifics, then remember them, then remember them in an applicable situation is very impressive.

He may have made a full recovery physically, but his friends will never let him forget what he did.

"One of the roommates dropped out quick because they didn't like spicy foods, they just wanted to taste flavor and enjoy what they ate." - The smart friend.

Props to that friend who had the base intellect to read the bottle.
6:23: This is where it got really scary.
Really love that you explained the electron interactions.

I love how he says "And be well" and makes it sound like a threat

The stories featured on this channel range from "oh my god, what an extreme outcome to something so mundane, this could happen to anyone" to "why on earth would someone drink a snow globe"

Apparently the way to deal with spicy foods is frozen key lime pie. The cold helps soothe. The fat coats your tongue, and the capsaicin is fat soluble. The acid from the lime juice breaks down the capsaicin. And the strong sugar flavor competes with the signals from the pain receptors in your tongue to drown it out. Also, holding your nose when you eat helps dull the sensation some too.

A while ago when I was in the hospital I (briefly) had to have an NG tube placed and it really irritated my throat so they gave me the same kind of throat spray. It didnt really work so I kept asking for more but they had a very strict schedule of how often i could have it, and they wouldn't leave it in my room, I had to ask the nurse for it each time. I got fed up and asked my dad to go down to the pharmacy/convenience store and just buy some for me, but they didnt have any. So thank you to Johns Hopkins for being so "mean" to me because I totally would have been dumb enough the down the bottle

Is anyone going to talk about how dedicated this young doctor is? I mean. Dubbing his videos on Spanish and Portuguese just so more people can access to this kind of content isn't something your average YouTube is willing to do. Congrats on your expansion efforts, Chubbyemu!

“As they drive him to the emergency room” what good friends knowing an RJ didn’t need an ambulance with a 5k bill on top of the 20k hospital bill 😊

Any video related to medical procedures in the USA should mention the hospital bill at the end.

This guy amazes me. Literally Everything he says he explains in thorough detail. This guy will teach you so much

i love when the consequences seem completely hyperbolic compared to the cause. like “a man stubbed his toe on a grand piano. this is how his entire nervous system shut down.”

The unusual thing in this case isn’t the irresponsible use or consumption of medicine/food/nonfood, it’s the quick and measured response from RJs friends. It’s always sad hearing the stories where they would’ve been fine if immediately treated but no one figured out they needed help until much later. Bravo to them!

You're honestly such a great storyteller. I've been binge watching your videos for the past days and even though I have no idea what you're talking about some times, the effort that is put in these videos is immaculate. Keep up the good work!

sheesh, i sure like this presentation, and how it is explained in a way so that if people don't have a chemistry or physics science background, they can still understand it.

thank you for also explaining just how dangerous it was for mark rober to use throat numbing spray for his hot ones challenge.
