Why You Should Never Have Your Tonsils Removed

The immune system's initial line of defense against bacteria and viruses that enter your mouth are the tonsils, the tonsils may be particularly susceptible to infection and inflammation as a result of this role. However, following puberty the tonsil's immune system function diminishes, which may account for the few cases of tonsillitis in adults. #animation #tonsils #health #shorts

Waiting for the part where they provide a reason to not have them removed 😂

Well, I was unable to eat or drink ANYTHING for three weeks, I was almost fatally feverish, and I coughed up blood daily because my tosils were infected. Glad to have them gone.

Mine almost killed me so many times that it is a miracle I survived long enough to get my surgery. When I was a child, I ran 104.9° fevers for nearly a week at a time every single month for a year and a half. I was tested for mono so often that a vein in my arm stopped giving blood. I was unable to keep food down to retain weight, and weighed just 72 pounds in 7th grade.

My ENT had to cancel my first surgery after my dad needed to rush me to urgent care after I spiked a 105.2° fever a few days before it was scheduled.

My tonsils were holding onto a particularly virulent strain of strep, and no matter how often they put me on antibiotics, it came right back again a few weeks later. It took my body YEARS to recover from the damage being so sick for so long caused.

Tonsils are a largely useless part of the childhood immune system that have no noticeable negative effects when removed, but MANY negative effects if they are infected and aren’t removed. If your doctor says they need to be removed, LISTEN.

27 yrs old I had mine taken out.
Don’t regret a damn thing!
Tonsil stones suck and are gross!!!
Not to mention they were massive and both touched the uvula!
So glad I found a doctor that helped!

It’s crazy — I rarely get sick after my tonsils were removed. But before? It felt like I was ill every other week growing up and struggled to breathe. I’m glad they’re gone. They seem like an imposter of the immune system.

I Was in the hospital numerous times for being constantly sick and unable to breathe. Tonsils and adenoids removed at age 5. Absolutely 0 problems since

You can eat ice cream and other frozen treats😂

Nah bro. I got sore throats (tonsillitis, strep, allergies) maybe 12-15 times a year. Got my tonsils out at 19 years old and haven’t had a random sore throat in years. It was the best decision I’ve ever made in my adult life. Waking up with a sore throat for almost half of your high school experience is not normal.

My sister and I got strep what seemed like every other week in childhood. Which would then spread to our parents. I don't regret my tonsillectomy and the only reason anyone regrets my sister's is because she hemorrhaged (at home, several days after the surgery and in the middle of the night on the top bunk of our bunk bed.) She lost so much blood she had to crawl up the stairs to my mom who was luckily still awake just one story up doing dishes.

I have not had strep throat since. They were removed when I was like 9ish and I'm now 28. My sister has had it maybe 1 time, but I can't recall if it was strep or something else. Sometimes your tonsils just don't function adequately and are the cause of repeated infections as opposed to helping fight them.

Then there is my husband who, when he got mono, his tonsils swelled to the point the ER was concerned it could cut off airflow soon and admitted him for steroids to reduce that swelling and observation.

Only thing I regret from getting them removed was the recovery. Holy fuck, that was the most painful period of time i've ever experienced in my life.

When a "Doctor" males an absplute statement like never, beware. After 30 years of infections, IV antibiotics, and threats of being intubated because my airway was blocked I have to disagree. Having them out as an adult is horrible, but it was still better than keeping them.

Tonsillitis is no joke. I had experienced it for the first time last year and it was two weeks of pure Hell. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I couldn't imagine having to constantly go through that amount of pain to the point of needing to get my tonsils removed which is also an extremely painful experience. I'm so grateful to not have this problem. I'm sorry to all of you whom have or had to deal with this.

Every two weeks I had to go to the Dr as a child . My tonsils were finally removed at age 11 and After this I never had another sickness until I had a flu shot and didn’t know anything for three days . That was my last flu shot and haven’t had the flu again.

I actually had HUGE tonsils and I went to get surgery to remove them so I can breath proprtly

Although what they said isn’t misinformation, the title certainly is. It’s very difficult to get your tonsils taken out if you don’t need them taken out, and the reason is because the risk outweighs the current problem. Yes, it’s a defence, but it’s not the only one. If someone has tonsillitis every single week, it’s not worth it to have them still in their mouth.

My tonsils are permanently swollen from recurring tonsillitis, most doctors I’ve been to suggest I get them removed
