And Canada developed defence scheme no.1 to delay American forces long enough for British troops to reinforce

I think it's important to remember that throughout the first part of the 20th century UK and Japan were buddies

Sounds like a backstory history lesson for Super Earth in helldivers.

At some point I was writing a paper on Chinese naval strategy in the interwar period and while looking for info on war plan yellow (for China) stumbled on a source which explained that the rainbow war plans were in some cases more for training and planing than an expectation of actual use. So, even if you didn’t plan to fight Britain, making a plan to do so might cause you to find a good tactic or understand some underlying truth. Not sure how correct this source was, but it was an interesting perspective.

One of the suspected reasons why the plans were thought up was because of naval power. After WW1, germany was dethroned as the 2nd largest naval power, and since America had a very flourishing industry, both Britain and America were a little bit anxious

Also, there was a time when Britain almost declared war with Russia, during the 2nd Russo-Japanese war, since both Japan and Britain were allied at the time. As Russian warships from the Baltic fleet were sailing past the UK to back up the Russian Pacific fleet, they fired at fishing boats believing them to be MTBs (Motor Torpedo Boats.) And since the British helped Estonia gain its independence using MTBs to sink a portion of the Russian Baltic fleet, tensions were already high

I was thinking about just this the other day. A really interesting proposal, would be a St Nazair, or Zeebroker style raid on the Panama Canal as an openeing "gambit" from the British. Kind of thing that really could determine the outcome.

The military is a planning organization, who's job it is to defend its country and residents (in theory atleast, this is debatable in reality).
Thus I don't see a reason why some people act like this is a sign of US agression or sth, afterall the british and canadians did the same thing to the US and other nations.
The military is supposed to have a plan to combat any close by or potential threat that could endanger it's country citizens, otherwise it won't be able to do its actual job properly.
In the end, its less about the plans you make, but the plans you follow through with...

That's why the Anglo Japanese Alliance was not renewed. The Canadians did not want to be invaded for the third time.

It is actually said that the Canadians had a plan to invade the US before WW2 but the British didn't want to back the plan due to the fact that it would've been an up hill battle. While the US plan was to capture Halifax and invade from there since cutting off the port meant no British reinforcements for the outnumbered Canadians... sometimes it's good that the world went to crap when it did.

Not many remembered that time in the 30s since the plan was classified secret until the 70s.

We still do this for every country and it gets updated all the time.

We are like Batman with his contingency plans against the justice league.

I would assume at this point there's a filling cabinet in the Pentagon with detailed invasion plans with every country on Earth, just as an exercise in strategic planning. That'd be a fun project to work on.

Yeah this was only down to give military command something to do during the interwar period neither British nor Americans thought they would go to war at any point in the foreseeable future

A British-Japanese alliance was not inconceivable in the 1930s. The Japanese had been allied with Britain during World War I, and had a long history of cooperation with a British military.

This is less likely but hey a what if scenario compared to Operation Paperclip the British created iirc where the allies would invade the USSR right after WW2 but it didn’t happen

I can understand this for a number of reasons but I will say the concept of the British feeling contested as the United States became an emerging super power is a new perspective for me.

I would've thought it had to do with the fact that many of Americans furing the interwar period seem to have deep ties to the nations founding despite the fact it's centuries after this point. Esspecially when it came to passing bills and legal action.

You still see things like that today although arbuably far less in regards to passing bills and things of that nature and considering what the founders would've thought.

I wonder what the plan would be for Mexico or if Mexico teamed up with Japan and Canada 🤷‍♂️but hey that wouldn’t end well for Mexico
