LG G3 OLED Review - The Brightest OLED Yet!

preview_player
Показать описание

The LG G3 OLED is a high-end TV in LG's 2023 OLED lineup, sitting above the typically more popular 'C' series LG C3 OLED and the entry-level OLED 'B' series LG B3 OLED, but below the 8k LG Z3 OLED. LG promises a 70% brighter image on the G3 over the LG B3 OLED due to the G3's new Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology. The 83-inch variant of the LG OLED G3 doesn't have MLA, so it's promised to be 'only' 30% brighter than the LG B3. The TV comes with the 2023 version of LG's proprietary webOS smart interface and has four full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports, which supports every gaming technology you can think of in 2023. It also has LG's latest 2023 processor, the α9 AI Processor Gen6, which promises improved image processing through LG's Brightness Booster Max and AI Tech technologies, as well as the ability to up-mix 2-channel audio into virtual 7.1.2 channel sound using AI Sound. The TV's 4.2 integrated speaker setup, which uses the TV's Dolby Atmos spatial sound technology, complements this.

We actually have a slight error in this video! The 83" size does not have MLA, and isn't as bright as the smaller sizes as a result. Sorry about that!

The 83" G3 doesn't have an MLA panel. It shouldn't have the same performance as the other sizes.

I don't fully agree with the statement that the G3 only looks better in bright rooms. In the dark you will definately notice the much brighter highlights and more popping colors in HDR material as well.

The dimming isn’t an issue with moving content, just static. I would argue that 99% of the time you would have movement on screen so dimming wouldn’t be a problem

I have the 65 inch LG G1 and its still a beast of a TV after two years. Great gaming TV, very bright, solid motion, etc. LG has released several updates to improve the picture since it was released. I can't see myself upgrading to the G3, even though its brighter than the G1 after only 2 years of owning the G1. The G3 is going to be the TV of the year even with the release of the SONY A95L.

Dolby Vision on Apple TV 4K is broken so dark and dim in Cinema Mode and Filmaker Mode

It would have been nice to really show the ABL in action and not just the already dimmed picture
Like a timelapse of the dimming and some exemple of how the TV react when something bright and white is on screen

Our LG B6 is still going strong 7 years later and still looks great, but it might be time to upgrade!

For what I can tell from reading and googling, it is the LG G3 77-inch vs the Sony A95L 77-inch for me. From my research on paper only: LG has the better gaming features and is currently a full $700 cheaper vs Sony. The LG's stand is an optional $150-ish dollars however, as it only includes a slim wall mount option in the box. That said, the LG is $4300 (slim wall mount only) and the Sony is $5000. While Sony seems to have slightly superior video qualities and better color. The question is did Sony do enough improvements and is more premium enough to justify the extra $700 and is the loss of gaming features acceptable or not? LG has double the useful HDMI ports and more comprehensive AV platform support. And LG seems to be slightly more robust when you consider possible burn in issues. But both are reasonably ok at avoiding burn in. The press and user forums seems to favor the Sony on absolute image quality. LG is slightly washed out at peak brightness and Sony is more color rich and accurate with slightly better image processing but not by much. Either TV is a home run. It's down to the nitty gritty at this point. Sony has Google TV, a better remote, and decently better built in TV speakers as they use the whole screen to vibrate as a speaker and it's reported to be quality - for a TV only speaker. It will still pale in comparison to any quality sound bar. I'll probably order the LG at this point. The gaming features and the extra burn in protection is more my style. But I do love Sony designs and their premium approach. That $500 to $700 of extra money goes to into making the best, most accurate image quality, better heat sinks and build quality. LG is always a bit less solid feeling. But they get very close image wise despite that and arguably get the job done for less.

@ 6:07. Is at that the TV doesn’t seem as bright because it’s in Filmaker mode? Can you tell the difference in those same scenes in standard?

I'm not happy with any of the settings on my lg g3 55" Dolby Vision in UHD on Netflix is horrible & I'm down-scaling to HD. Months after my purchase I'm constantly tweaking as I move between the channels. I pine for the days of the old Sony Trinitron Sets when things were a lot simpler!

This really shows how important competition is. For years you could say that lg has stagnated and released practically the same tv every year. Now that samsung can make their own oled panels, lg managed to push the g3 to 1300 nits? That's just crazy for a single layer oled panel. I bet they were sitting on the MLA tech for a bit, waiting for a reason to put it out there

I'm strongly considering buying one of these. Just waiting for the price to drop more.

Great review. Would I be better off with a mini led in a bright room? And what triggers abl...would a video game dim in call of duty if Im camping and staring at a bright space?
Also would you say Samsung upscale better?

65 G3 has an issue with WebOS 23 while playing Netflix - Audio is very low. LG Technicians and Netflix support teams can not resolve the issue. Any suggestions?

Hello Rtings! The G3 is a great product, I do have it in a bright room and the image is great. Do you have a video suggesting picture and videogames' settings?

Would the LG G3 be the best OLED of the year regardless of the upcoming A95L??
