How to Convert H.265 to H.264 Easily and Free

I have been shooting/reviewing the new Samsung NX1 and was disappointed when nothing the NX1 recorded was actually watchable on my iMac. This is because the NX1 records in H.265 codec, the next generation of video codecs that is currently young and unsupported by both Apple and Adobe. Though this will change in the future, for now H.264 is still the standard.

So how do you convert? I struggled to find a good option that didn't cost a fortune, and discovered this free program that you should absolutely use if you plan to shoot with the NX1 prior to the H.265 support. It's quick, doesn't get crazy or flashy with its options, and best of all, it's free.

It worked!!!! The audio was broken, but my editor (Vegas Pro) could read so I have to put the new h264 file linked to the original audio of the h265, and everything is solved.

Handbrake has the ablity to convert H.265 to H.264 video. But it has some limits:
- Handbrake always outputs poor video quality.
- It takes quite a long time to load source video and convert video.
- It sometimes crashes in the middle before finishing the conversion process.
- Besides, Handbrake is not updated often and lacks technical support.
- The interface and settings of Handbrake are complex and it is not suitable for new beginners.

In this case, you can try a more advanced H.265 encoder like DumboFab video converter to finish the job.

I have a GH4 and it shoots 4k, and I have a Vizio P-series(4K)
The TV only reads H.265
Can I convert the GH4 videos to H.265 ? (So I can watch on my TV)

Sure, but to properly grade the footage from the NX1, don't you wish you could convert it to something more interesting than H.264? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to convert it to ProRes 444 and grade the prores footage? I mean, who wants to grade H.264?

Do you know if this program would work on converting GoPro 4K 60fps which are H.265 to H.264. I have a Mid 2015 iMac 27" 5K and this is really upsetting such a fairly new iMac and just got my GoPro and can't play or edit any of the videos, Thanks

I just try to covert a HD video of about 3 minutes (mp4 718 Mb) set in mp4-H265 (162Mb) in my video program an it say it seems to take more than 3 hours . seems not right, as i send it in skype and download it back, i get a H.265 file in just minutes
