Anirban Bandyopadhyay - How Do Brains Act?

Показать описание
Brains are the most complex organization of matter in the universe (as far as we know). What astonishing capacities are backed into such a small volume of warm, wet tissue—roughly three pounds, less than an average cantaloupe. What are the basic principles of brain function? How do they work together to give us a sense of integration not confusion?

Anirban Bandyopadhyay is a Senior Scientist in the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Tsukuba, Japan. He possesses a Masters of Science in Condensed Matter Physics, Computer, Numerical Analysis, and Astrophysics from North Bengal University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Physics from Jadavpur University.

This guy is frequently quoted by Penrose and Hamerof. This guy is a genius. Why is it that hard for the layman to understand that it all goes back to sound and light?

One of the most profound short talks! Very enlightening :) THANK YOU!

This guy is a senior scientist at the national institute of material science in japan, and has ideas that are at odds with materialism.

One of the best 6 mins videos on brain, neurones, computation and intelligence. Amazing!!!

So the brain is like a musical instrument with melody, rhythm and harmony.

As an Indian, I like the fact, that his Bengali simplicity remains with him, even though he is knowledgeable about a lot of stuff.😊

I agree with the notion that it's not how much neurons a creature has, but how they are arranged that may generate intelligence. But I think there is some background computation going on in the brain, like a subconscious, that sends reactions to the consciousness. Most people dont like the idea of consciousness being controlled by the brain because it seems to negate free will. I think that's more related to internal and external relationships, rather than process and functionality.

Symmetry is key. Enough to drive you toward it; when it's achieved it drives you crazy.

Vibrations and harmonizing...sorry, it does not sound like it is science based.

Intelligence can't be harmonized with nature.
Those are two different modes of existence, our mind is limited only by amount of energy brain can process and transform. To be intelligent is to resist natural flow, but only way we can do that is when we avoid current build up. Electricity is not like water, if pressures get to high, charge will jump over some short distance, like there was nothing there holding current back. Same goes for intelligence, if we try to reason to much, pressure inside brain cells will increase, but can't discharge into flow of creative solutions yet because we don't have appropriate knowledge or skills at present. Thoughts are energy, so ideas just discharge somewhere, flow of reasoning get diverted over other, non related concepts or brain will heat up and get depressed. We must find solutions to other problems first, if we want to tackle big problem, sacrifice some useful gains to became capable of higher intellectual achievements, to benefit from in the desired future. Other forms of life can't route mental energy so efficiently, they favor instant satisfaction and are happy with simple, short term solutions.

Here's a good example, why all man admire very beautiful girls? It can't be because we want to make babies to them and they doesn't remind us we need company of a woman, there's something more than that in the way they look. It's not intelligent to day dream about woman you know can't be reached and don't actually want to, but there's some special kind of value in very fact girls can be like that. Imagine all girls would remain forever young and have stunning looks, would we even notice anything special about them? Probably yes, because perfection is a very delicate, sensitive state of balance, can be disturbed by slightest change. But perfection is never perfect, small anomalies are the reason why they seems to be more beautiful than others to us. So what can we do, it's perfect because all small imperfections align just right and we can't change anything, we can only admire them from a distance until it last, i guess.

How does he know that the question and the answer weren't both pre-programmed, along with the entire conversation?

What absolute nonsense. This guy might as well be talking to Aristotle. Let's use pure reasoning and deep sounding words to dream up a beautiful story about how the universe and consciousness are connected. Dr Bandyopadhyay, I hate to disturb your wonderful recitation of woo-woo, but there's a call on line 1, it's the scientific method calling.

I like this guy but he needs to have Bernardo Kastrup's business card in his pocket so he can call a lifeline when he is stumped.

Christianity is the only faith based on the absolute and the probability of one. Prophesies foretold years in advance and fulfilled to the letter. All in all.
