Prop 20 in a Minute: Tougher Criminal Sentencing (2020) | Ballot Brief | KCET

Показать описание
Prop 20 adds to the list of violent crimes for which early parole is restricted in California, allowing certain types of theft and fraud crimes to be charged as misdemeanors or felonies. It also requires DNA collection for some misdemeanors. Proponents say child sex trafficking, spousal abuse and some types of rape aren’t defined as violent crimes and repeat thieves are treated like shoplifters.

This should’ve been 2 props. The first half is great, the second half that prevents a person from being released because of how the job market is capable their skills is bs

if the crime rate is down in California, then they need people to be charged with felonies so they can do longer jail sentences. that's disgusting!!

I would vote yes, but having DNA records of people is concerning. It seems like a double edge sword.

I don’t like this. We shouldn’t be harsher, we should be more rehabilitating BUT the theft of firearms and credit cards should be more harsh then a misdemeanor

As a firearms owner, I would not like to have my firearms stolen and see the thief being tried for a simple misdeamnor. We are talking about credit/debit cards (finances) and firearms (protection). People who take that from others should be tried as felons! Yes on Prop 20! Especially here in this crime ridden state of California!

Yo usually I rely on the comment section to give me an idea for what to vote
but here....
_THE COMMENT SECTION IS SO CONTROVERSIAL I CAN'T DECIDE_

I dont mind giving my dna, knowing I wont ever commit a crime
but them school tax gains tho?

It concerns me that the government would have DNA records of people, but one also gives up his liberties as a criminal. This proposition definitely looks like it would be good overall because of the importance of cracking down on crime, especially here in my home state of California.

People don't need to spend years in jail for $250 theft.

*NO PROP 20*

Vote yes on 20. If you’ve ever had to deal with your home getting broken into. Your purse stolen. It also steals your peace of mind. If you think it’s just material but don’t understand what it takes to work hard for something and have it ripped from under you. What’s mine is mine not yours. Earn your own things if you want them so bad. You’re the one responsible for the consequences of your own actions. If you know you’re stealing and hurting someone in the act, I don’t feel bad for you just as you didn’t feel bad for them. The level of the crime can hurt you in the long run but if it doesn’t change your mind about doing the crime, then this is why this proposition is here. Only those with good morals aren’t having to second guess.

Costs more money annually and I’m not into having them collect DNA from a damn misdemeanor

I'm voting yes on Prop. 20. Imagine if it was your mother, father, son, or daughter who was assaulted with a knife or a gun. That criminal would have to be charged with a misdemeanor. Would you seriously want this person out on our streets in a couple of months? Vote yes on Prop. 20 to make these disgusting criminals receive harsher sentences.

Everyone against the “Prison Industrial Complex” yet don’t say anything about the street gang complex. Apologists.
