Oh, man! It never even occurred to me to use my TV remote to control my streaming device. After watching this video, I immediately tried my DirecTV remote in "TV mode", and it controlled most of my Tivo Stream 4k via CEC. That tip alone was worth the price of watching this video. Peace can be restored to our couch. Thanks!

It would be great to be able to purchase an extra, real Chromecast Google TV remote. The Fire remote does work, but the voice control is really slick. Also, the android remote app works -- but there is no volume control.

All my devices are controlled with Harmony hub w/ companion remote. I just upgraded this week by adding a Harmony 950

I bought a replacement remote but it's a clone. Most functions work, but volume and power only works for IR for some strange reason.

It's also very laggy compared to the original. Sometimes it repeats presses multiple times.

And the LED design is completely different.

Hate the volume buttons location so I returned it. A fan of TiVo Stream 4K but it currently has a bug with playing YouTube TV. I'm sure they'll fix it soon but til then... Decided to get 2 Mecool KM2s for about $65 each during their Father's Day special. Doesn't have much storage but it comes with ports for extra storage and a bunch of other specs.

Did you try using a button mapper app to customise thirty party remote buttons? I was able to do that with the stock remote

I use my Samsung tv remote to control chromecast. It has much better placement of volume controls and has much better ergonomic and feel. And all controls work, i did not have to do any settings, just plug in my chromecast. Also the samsung remote has solar panel and usb c for charging if the need be. Only thing that doesn't work is google assistant for which i have google nest hub, which works without pressing any button 🙂.

Nice tutorial ! I plan to pair a Firestick Remote to the Chromecast. Do you think that the mouse toggle function will work on the Chromecast ? I find that the absence of a mouse function is a drawback to the Chromecast Remote. Thanks for your efforts.
