Pixel 8 Pro 10 Months On: Wait for Pixel 9?

Can you believe the Pixel 8 Pro is already about to be replaced? It's barely been 10 months since this thing launched, but already Google is showing off the Pixel 9 series as part of an earlier-than-usual refresh for its flagship smartphone.

The Pixel 8 Pro is probably the Android phone I've used the most throughout the past 10 months -- starting in October 2023 and accompanying me throughout travels to six countries. It's the best Pixel Google has ever produced -- leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in some key areas. And yet there are some other things Google just can't seem to get right.

Face unlock is awesome on the 8 Pro too. It even works with Barclays Banks, that says how good it is.

Big fan of the P8P. I bought the Fold6, but I'm returning it because, like you eloquently stated, the P8P is super comfortable to hold. I hope this will be the first time I'm content with what I have, and I will keep this phone for another year. Like you said, the camera is amazing, and I like the haptics, too. Underrated, IMO.

I've been using Pixels for a year and a half and people sometimes come up to me in cafes etc and say, oh is that a Google phone? Or is that a Pixel?

Still using my Pixel 5 because of unlimited photo upload in Google Drive and the good position of the fingerprint sensor at the back including its scroll functionality. Waiting for Pixel 10..

Me who is watching this review on my pixel 8 pro happily i can say this is the best Android phone I've ever used! I also own s23 ultra and a pixel 6 but i always return back to the 8 pro! Yes i did notice occasionally some software issues but that didn't bother me! Great camera, great battery, great haptics overall 9/10.

It’s an amazing phone.

Sure, the processor is not top of the line, nor does the phone have the best battery life of them all, but literally everything else is absolutely amazing with this phone. You can’t even feel the „lesser“ performing chip. The cameras are amazing, the vibration motor is basically on par with apple, the speakers are nice, the display is very good, the design is perfectly individual.

It’s just a pretty damn good phone overall.

I prefer Google's actual android over any other vendor's skins of bloadware ridden versions... But would it hurt them so much to let us pick the theme's colors as we wish?

The only good thing about the pixels is the unlocked bootloader, Change my mind meme. Seriously though, they want to charge as much as the snapdragon creme de la creme but deliver half the specs.

Planning to get a Pixel 9 Pro and I'm so disappointed that google still didn't roll out the promised "Zoom Enhance" feature.
Is it even coming at this point.

It was my daily driver until I got my S24 plus and I've Moved this one to my side piece My P8P Has and still is a damn good phone. Everything I ever wanted in a pixel going to be upgrading to the pixel 9 Pro and passing this on to the wifey. In a few weeks.

Anyone else sick of the "not buying a Pixel unless the chip is made by TSMC"?. I came from an S24 U to P8P and this thing is smoother and snappier than S24U with the Pixel only a tad behind on battery life. People make it out like the Tensor G3 is unuseable. Its honestly cringe.

I absolutely love my pixel 8 pro, the battery is pretty good, the performance is good (I don't game on my phone since I have a really high end gaming pc) and honestly it's a pretty good phone and I have not experienced any issues with my pixel 8 pro.

I'll probably get this when the 9 comes out. Unless there's something the 9 Pro has to offer over the 8. I see the Sony sensor looks like an interesting update 👀.

There is no need for the industry to release a new phone evey 10 months.

According to the leaks, the 9 pro just receives the annual chip update, a boxy design and the selfie camera is going to be higher resolution. That’s it. Just how Samsung updates basically nothing with the regular S series. Same screen, same battery, same cameras.
So when the 9 comes out I can just get the 8 pro at a discount, cuz I don’t really like boxier phones (e.g. the iPhone Xs vs the 14 pro, massive difference in hand).

Currently have the Pixel fold and battery life is herendous, even when only using the main screen. But the size is still my favorite for both worlds. I will def wait for the 10, and see what the new chip has in store. Excited to hear that it is already been made so they have over a year to get it working perfectly. But will admit the new hardware does look so so good.
