Turbo Roundabout Design with TORUS™ 5.0
Показать описание
Turbo Roundabouts and Turbo Roundabout Design software:
The concept of the Turbo Roundabout was developed in 1996 by Professor Fortuijn in an attempt to deal with some of the drawbacks of the traditional roundabout design. The following are some of the key characteristics for Turbo Roundabouts:
- No Lane changing on the Roundabout
- Nested spiral lane is introduced for one or more entries
- No need to yield to traffic on more than two lanes
- Low driving speed through the roundabout by the presence of raised lane dividers
In the latest software release of Torus, users can generate turbo roundabouts based on the Dutch design methodology. Using the patented Vehicle Envelop Method key geometric elements such as circulatory lane widths, entry and exit widths are dictated by the design vehicle swept path envelope. Taking advantage of Torus’s flexibility, the roundabout design can be regionalized to meet different design vehicles or approach methods from around the world
To generate the turbo roundabout, users can select from a list of predefined design guidelines or create a custom guideline. Next, the turbo-block is placed at the optimal location and the number of approach legs is defined. Afterwards, users can refine their roundabout design by changing the number of spiral starts, and edit the footprint of the turbo roundabout design by adjusting the inner radius or changing the translation axis angle. Users can also change the spiral start legs and set the number of inner lane revolutions to achieve the desired lane configuration.
Once the ideal turbo roundabout design has been created, vehicle sightlines and vehicle movements can be checked. Utilizing the Design Manager tool, multiple design iterations can be saved, recalled and edited to suit.
TORUS™ 5.0 runs on AutoCAD (Autodesk) or Microstation (Bentley) and will be available in several languages (English, German, French)
The software can be very interesting for Transportation Engineers, Traffic and Urban Planners, AEC Consultants, Designers, Government Transportation Policy Officials, CAD Managers and Drafters
