What was Furiosa gonna do to get them free exactly? The crew was already suspicious when they went off course. Then a war party from the citadel giving chase, not to mention gastown and bulletfarm. If not for the buzzard attack, which they barely survived, and the super storm the crew would have killed her and brought the wives right back. Even the rock riders would have killed them all if she shows up with a war rig full of warboys, and then took everything, wives included. They were never going to make it, i think they would rather die hopefully of freedom than go back to live as property. Angharad first words to Max states that even with a gun to my head, I'm not going back. Even when he has a gun pointing at her back she still determine to get away from that life, if it can be called that.
