The advent of the Covid-19 pandemic has reshaped our modern society in potentially the most significant way since World War II. It has drastically altered our individual and collective lifestyles, exposed fragilities in national health systems and government responses, and accentuated economic disparities and social tensions. Yet, it has also made us more aware of how imminent threats can rapidly disrupt our social fabric and of the importance of coordinating at EU level cooperation frameworks for preparedness and response to public health crises, as well as for concrete policy initiatives of various kinds.

This EPRS roundtable, held in conjunction with COST, will take a close look at potential present and future health threats, discuss what we have learnt from the Covid-19 pandemic, and assess how we can apply that learning in our preparedness for future crises. It is designed to trigger a discussion on EU-coordinated public policies and communication strategies, so that we are in a better position to tackle the next pandemic, whenever it comes.
