What on Earth is a cross product?!?!?

That's the question we answer in this video.

This video discusses what a cross product is: a vector operation that multiplies two vectors to return a third vector perpendicular to the first two. The video also introduces the basic formula for the magnitude of the cross product (the full vector formula of the cross product will be covered in another video). Finally, the video demonstrates a use of cross products through torques -- which are something like a rotational force.

Without these people sharing their content for reuse and reproduction, nothing here would be possible. They don’t ask for credit, but they deserve it.

I have made an error in the video!

Around 9:27, I start discussing an “interesting case” of the cross product and I say it is 0 because the force was applied directly at the center and r=0. This is not true! Indeed, the cross product in this case (ie the torque) is 0, but this is not because r=0 (that would be a case when a force is applied directly at the center of the object – think of a force from above hitting the center). The case presented at 9:27 is instead explained by the same logic as the case presented at 10:34. In the example at 9:27, the r vector should point from the center of the block vertically down to where the force is applied, and it is completely parallel to the Force vector (hence the cross product is 0). In other words, the case at 9:27 and the case at 10:34 are explained by the exact same logic (the logic at 10:34). So sorry about that!

Nicely explained. You brought more clarity to the concept. Looking for more.
