Respiratory symptoms are the most frequent complaint amongst athletes at major sporting events. Respiratory symptoms are not specific to a particular disease, however we know athletes are more susceptible to asthma related conditions than the general population.

In this Think Kent presentation Professor Dickinson, will discuss his experiences and research in dealing with athletes presenting with significant respiratory symptoms that limit their performance. He will explain why athletes are more susceptible to asthma related conditions, detail methods that can be used to diagnose asthma in athletes and discuss anti-doping concerns around using asthma inhalers. He will finish by explaining that not all exercise respiratory symptoms are asthma related and could be down to other factors such as dysfunctional breathing.
