52:00 One interesting thing to note about this sequence is that through both the audio mixing (note who has the echo effect) and voice acting it is highly implied that the conversation is flipped between both characters, with each performing the others lines (this is also more apparent in the dub as well). So when Lain says "I caused the protocol that governs the wired to evolve" you could interpret this as actually being said by Eri.

I've watched the whole series, and I'm not even 5 minutes into this, and I didn't know ANY of that. It's truly one of the most complex and hard to follow pieces of media ever made, and I love that.

When I first watched the show, I didn't understand it in the slightest, and the scene at the end of "ego", where lain was talking to her "father" was the only one that left a really deep impression.

The scene could deeply resonate with lonely people, especially young ones, yearning for connection and understanding. If I remember correctly, her father was saying something about buying some bakery and enjoying it then with her. It just felt so eerie when Lain was rambling about her desicion, while her "father" talked about such mundane things. Almost like she was imagining a finally open and frank conversation where she can vent to someone she loves and knows loves her too, but couldn't do so properly due to her lack of experience in normal communication and probably because she mostly heard people, especially her father, talk about day-to-day life.

This might be as well contradictory to few facts of the show but uhhh just wanted to share my vision

I'm not exactly sure what I expected from this video, but WOW. I guess I was looking for a bit more Lain lore but also got a beautifully well-thought-out deep dive into the anime, philosophy, and nature of reality itself. Everything about this was perfect, your analysis, the script, your delivery, EVERYTHING. Bro, you took one of my favorite anime's and somehow leveled-up my appreciation for it. Excellent work man!

I love that this show, once a niche within niche within a niche, is gain more popularity. The fact the it becomes more prescient day by day, is certainly part of that. But that fact itself is more than a little terrifying.

Lain reminds me of my gf in some ways, my gf is autistic and sometimes experiences hallucinations (tho not any in the past years.) Among everything else said here Lain is a series about a person suffering from severe hallucinations and cannot process the world in a regular way.

Sock Sensei makes the Samurai Champloo OP and video play in my head with each video released. He is the essence of Mugen, tearing into his foes which in this case being a deep analysis of any Anime that lands on his radar. I honestly didn't enjoy Lain too much, bit too out there for my feeble brain growing up, but your extensive breakdown gives it a whole new perspective. The thought provoking videos you continue to bring are ever so enjoyable. Give this man 100k subs, STAT! Need us a famous Vtuber to do a Twitch style raid on your account... I just finished this show today and it was phenomenal! Other than the story I also really loved the art direction and its aesthetic. One scene especially, when everyone disappears around Lains sister, there’s a shot of the seats which immediately reminded me of an artwork by John Register and I’m almost convinced by the similarities alone that his artwork was the inspiration behind that scene. There are also probably many more references to the works of other artists throughout the anime that I haven’t even noticed yet.

what a watch, amazing analysis and breakdown- for someone thats a bit on the dumber side it was so good to finally piece things together after years and years and multiple rewatches overthinking most if not all events, but despite that still being completely infactuated with the themes, ambiguity and mind blowing production this show has to offer.

you've given me a new appreciation for this masterpiece in its story telling that i've struggled to untangle for a very long time. Awesome video man.
