Again, this will ultimately be a five part series on international travel, but we will be publishing parts three though five a bit later after one or two of our regular cruise tips videos. In addition to exchange rates, you need to check if there are purchase fees. AAA waives these charges, for its members, if you order more than $500.00 in foreign currency. But they have limited types of currencies available. Do not use your credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM. That is considered a cash advance and you pay interest from the time you make the cash withdrawal until you pay your credit card bill. Use a debit card instead. Sherry, it looks like my ability to comment on you channel is back! And yes, I still get a Sunday newspaper. It was the only way I could gain access to the newspaper's daily website without paying a monthly fee.

A great option for foreign currency is...your bank. Yes! Most banks can obtain foreign currency within a few days. In addition, when you return with foreign currency banks will exchange it back. On a recent Baltic Capitals Cruise, this is exactly what our group did.

Don't underestimate the value of guided tours at some sights. In my early years of traveling that seemed too expensive and I thought "why would anyone pay for that? I can walk around the museum myself." I have since seen the value especially if you are going someplace during high season. Packed museums and sights are hard to enjoy. But on a guided trip you walk past the crowds, many times bypassing entry lines. A knowledgeable person is assisting you and the crowded conditions become less problematic. You will actually ENJOY your time.

I never exchange money when traveling internationally...I have a separate checking account for travel purposes only n just use that debit card for everything...Also take my MC and $100 cash for emergencies if they should arise...I have travel pass on my Verizon acct and I pay $10/day only on the days I use it! Packing cubes, can't get enough of them 😍😍😍

Airport ATMs - make sure it is a BANK atm and not a foreign exchange company‘s

Just a note, bought the "40lb" magnetic hooks and put. it on my stateroom wall and they wouldn't even hold my lanyard!!! So I moved them to then outside of the bathroom door and they stuck like a champ! Who knew???
Also, my credit union is a smaller institution so my friend, who works there, told me NOT to use the Debit card while in Canada or I would incur some major foreign transaction fees. Make sure you check with your institution for possible fees.

Don't forget to take a copy of your Marriage Licence just in case of a unexpected accident! This would have helped a couple of our traveling friends.

Also, double check if you need a visa for countries you are visiting. In my recent cruise, the ship took care of it since I was on an excursion sponsored by the cruise line.
