How to install VMware tools if the option is grayed out in VMware Workstation

Thanks a lot brother this is still relevant for vmware workstation player 17.5 as of 2024 I needed to full screen the vmware and after installing it just did it. Never knew floppy can be an issue.

Don't understand why but this worked for me too, as I had the windows update needed just wouldn't install as it was grayed out.

this worked thank you. it would be great if vmware could write a routine, that detected this problem, then said "hey you aren't using the fd - perhaps this is getting in the way of installing vmware tools which we keep nagging you to do" :-) thanks again.
