I think one more thing that would have been worth mentioning is that Anubis is very often depicted slightly tipping the scales in favor of the soul, showing his compassion for the dead and his desire to forgive and allow passage to the afterlife.

I remember the Mummy Returns portraying Anubis as a dark god of the Underworld with armies of soldiers that share his visage. However, in Egyptian mythology, he’s a selfless guardian of the dead who respected Osiris’s authority. He understood that life and death must be kept in balance, even though he had a vicious, chilling appearance. Very honorable.

He has compassion for both the living and the dead. Many say his father was Osiris and his mother was Set’s wife, Nephthys and after giving birth to Anubis, she abandons him. It’s Isis who raises him as one of her own sons. That is why Horus and Anubis are seen as brothers and bother are protectors, one fore the living & one for the dead.

Its a shame that just like all the other gods of the dead, Anubis is portrayed as a bad guy.

Anubis is my favorite Egyptian god, I named a puppy I rescued after him even though everybody told me Anubis was supposedly the devil. He is misunderstood and feard just because he is associated with death. So everyone wouldn't feel uncomfortable calling my dog Anubis by his name, I nicknamed him Nunu.

It‘s quite fascinating how Anubis, a canine god, was so immensely popular in ancient Egypt where felines also were held in a very high regard, considering the „rivalry“ shared between the two species.
It‘s no surprise that he has retained his popularity however, considering the continuing love from humanity towards the canine, as well as the continuing fascination with the subject of death.

I love that you mentioned how there were a lot of jackals in the valley of kings/tombs, so that's a possibility as to why he could have been depicted with a jackal's head. Not a lot of people know of that potential trivia (I took art history 3 times, and only in my last one was it mentioned as a possibility).
Ancient Egypt has always been one of my special interests, and Anu is has always been one of my favorite of the ancient gods. So Thank you for the video. ❤️

Actually his depiction in the tv show Gargoyles is pretty good as well, an Emir wants his son to be brought back to live but Aubis says he won't do it because death is the great equalizer "you don't want the jackal headed god to play favorites"
