Best way to make a feather stick I've ever seen

Thank you. Consider putting thumb atop end of knife handle when stabbing into wood block. It'll minimize chance of hand sliding down over blade—especially with freezing temps.

If your going to carry that striker then just carry a magnesium and striker stick. Same size I've had mine for a couple years, and still have a lot of magnesium on it. You don't need shavings just split up a few popsicle stick sized or a bit bigger sticks. Scrape a bit of Magnesium one hit with the flint and it's time to heat up.

Nice technique, uses larger muscle groups, seems much better, especially in the cold.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen anyone make feathers by sinking the blade into a log and moving the stick over the blade instead of the other way around. This looks like it's more accommodating to my strength and skill level so I definitely want to try it this way soon!!!

I use pine sap to start mine & it works in the rain

Why wouldn't you just set the ice cream on the counter yourself? You don't walk by your refrigerator?
