Carbon dioxide levels increase in the atmosphere due to combustion of fossil fuels, respiration and deforestation. Methane levels increase in the atmosphere due to landfill sites, grazing cattle, swamps and rice fields. Deforestation causes less photosynthesis, so carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere.
