"Most" of the surface IR does NOT make it out to space--only 5-10% does. The rest is absorbed by the atmosphere. Otherwise this looks like a very good summary.

Visualizing Greenhouse Effect’s Physics:
Greenhouse gases, unlike nitrogen and oxygen, readily absorb ‘infrared energy’ (heat). Absorption of such radiant energy causes these molecules to gyrate wildly and vigorously bump into neighboring molecules, thus causing them to ricochet off of other surrounding molecules that, in turn, bump into other molecules which bump into more, etcetera, etcetera. This energy of physical motion represents ‘kinetic energy’ — the measure of which is temperature.

Yes, water vapor is a very powerful GHG but the rest especially CO2 does not add very much to the heat of the lower troposphere. Facts not hysteria will prevail

My book says the earth absorbed infrared and emits longer wavelength infrared is that correct??

It has an incorrect description of the physics but that doesn't matter in this venue and a correct description of the physics would take maybe 5 minutes longer to do even talking quickly.

This is just wrong! The GHG molecules do not absorb IR and "slowly release it back into the atmosphere." IR travels at the speed of light, and the atmosphere does not store heat. Another completely confused greenhouse effect video that people should not learn from.

GHG effect can't exist because:
"R is the ideal gas constant. It is the same for all gases. It can also be derived from the microscopic kinetic theory, as was achieved (apparently independently) by August Krönig in 1856 and Rudolf Clausius in 1857."
