I was raised in south central Alaska. For a 7th grade field trip we went into a marsh and collected male and female spawning salmon. One of the teachers would club the fish and then extract the eggs from the females and the milt from the males.

We fertilized a bunch of salmon eggs that we collected back at school. Then we hatched them and raised them until they could be released.

I’ll never forget that or any of the other field trips we took in the wilderness.
