I love how cultures have overlap. Soul food has a similar thing It's called smothered cabbage instead of the soy there's an emphasis on black pepper for flavoring You add garlic and you add chilies salt pepper you wilt the cabbage a little bit then you bring up the heat to get a good color on it.

Very similar to how my mom taught me to cook cabbage. Except we use bacon, onion, bell pepper. Salt, vinegar, tiny bit of sugar to cut the acidity, garlic powder and hot sauce (I like Tabasco). Gotta cook it down till its wilted. I add freshly cracked black pepper at the very end of cooking too.

I know why, it's actually delicious, the thing is. My family sautes cabbage and bacon, we dad onion for flavor. This is very traditional for my family, we are not Asian but wherever it came from might have been a Chinese immigrant. Is still delicious and when you cook cabbage like that it's nice and spicy. 💕

My mom taught me this years ago and said her coworker taught her this. Her version doesn't have meat, just garlic, white onions, soysauce, a bit of sugar and elbow grease. It so good on fresh steamed rice as is or a side dish!

Gonna try this now with this recipe.

Well I have to commend you you did a great job. This is exactly how I've been preparing fried cabbage for 60 years!

I can eat this all day long. The black vinegar is a must with this simple dish! Never tried with bacon. Looks yummy.
