Interstellar is a 2014 epic science-fiction film co-written, directed, and produced by Christopher Nolan. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, Matt Damon, and Michael Caine. Set in a dystopian future where humanity is struggling to survive, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for mankind.

Brothers Christopher and Jonathan Nolan wrote the screenplay, which had its origins in a script Jonathan developed in 2007. Christopher produced Interstellar with his wife, Emma Thomas, through their production company Syncopy, and with Lynda Obst through Lynda Obst Productions. Caltech theoretical physicist and 2017 Nobel laureate in Physics[4] Kip Thorne was an executive producer, acted as a scientific consultant, and wrote a tie-in book, The Science of Interstellar. Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Legendary Pictures co-financed the film. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema shot it on 35 mm movie film in the Panavision anamorphic format and IMAX 70 mm. Principal photography began in late 2013 and took place in Alberta, Iceland and Los Angeles. Interstellar uses extensive practical and miniature effects and the company Double Negative created additional digital effects.

Interstellar premiered on October 26, 2014, in Los Angeles, California. In the United States, it was first released on film stock, expanding to venues using digital projectors. The film had a worldwide gross over $677 million (and $773 million with subsequent re-releases), making it the tenth-highest grossing film of 2014. It received acclaim for its performances, direction, screenplay, musical score, visual effects, ambition, themes, and emotional weight. It has also received praise from many astronomers for its scientific accuracy and portrayal of theoretical astrophysics. Since its premiere, Interstellar gained a cult following, and now is regarded by many sci-fi experts as one of the best science-fiction movies of all time. Interstellar was nominated for five awards at the 87th Academy Awards, winning Best Visual Effects, and received numerous other accolades.

I found it very weird that no one took more interest in Cooper. Even if people didn't know about his contribution, they should've been more curious. At this point, the earth is not livable anymore and humanity has transitioned to an artificial habitat in space. Then they find an astronaut, floating in space, his suit and its technology is old and belongs to an old mission, but the man doesn't look that old. I mean, they would've wanted to debrief him. He should have been surrounded by scientists, doctors etc. Idk I guess I am getting worked up over nothing.

And then they just leave him standing there. A man who has been through a black hole at the age of 124.

The real question no one is asking is why the house needs a shingled roof.

I always found it fascinated how, in the age of advanced technology, no one took interest in Cooper's past experience and what he saw. He just arrived from saving humanity and they're treating him like a wounded puppy they have to bring back to the shelter.

What a legendary movie. I can't believe it's nearly a decade old. Time is funny

We know the real MVP in this movie is TARS. without TARS, no one can translate the data for Cooper and Cooper cannot transmit the data to Murph which is the last piece to solving the equation and Humanity would have gone extinct.

Think about this: Only a handful of people knew about the Lazarus missions, the Endurance and Plans A & B.
-- After Murphy announced that she had solved the problem of gravity, Humanity started building the massive space stations.
-- 50-60 years later, the space stations were in space, and an entirely new society had grown, only knowing about Murphy Cooper.
-- There was that memorial dedicated to all the Lazarus and Endurance astronauts (including Joe Cooper), but Murphy Cooper was the "savior" most known and revered by everyone.
-- Most importantly, no one believed Murphy's claim that her father communicated all the data to her from another galaxy.

So when the nurse and doctor brushed off Cooper's comment about naming the station after him, they did so because they probably knew very little about him. They all knew who Murphy Cooper was.

Kind of disrespectful that the girl laughed. He hasn't been in the solar system for decades.

Probably the most awkward and disappointing moment in this amazing movie was the underwhelming response to Cooper's return. But from earth's perspective they had no clue about his encounter with ETs in the tesseract or how he survived being sucked into a black hole. So Nolan got it right, and the disappointment is bitter sweet for viewers. We know he's the hero that earth needs not the hero earth deserved😄 Matman

I think they hired a real nurse. She nailed the part.

This movie fills you with an infinite sadness but leaves you with the tiniest bit of hope. It's in my top 3 all-time. Must watch.

When the lady laughed I can remember the small uproar in the theater. It's like she doesn't understand that this is Murphs father. Show some damn respect.

It was kinda weird at first why he was just being treated like some guy that woke up in a coma. Then I realized that their space exploration was not a successful mission yet.

Ok they’re laughing at him for thinking that the station was named after him. He went on a mission over a century ago to find a viable place to found a colony exactly like the one he’s on. They said they found him with minutes left in his air supply despite it not being able to hold anywhere even remotely resembling that amount of oxygen. He should have a station named after him. Murph stood on the shoulders of giants, but he is that giant

Can't imagine what it must be like to be away from your child for 124 years and discover she's coming to see you. You'd be overwhelmed with feeling.
