This 107-Year-Old Is Still Driving

A 107-year-old man may be the country's oldest person behind the wheel, and he has something to say to the naysayers: "Of course I'm a good driver." Joe Newman of Sarasota, Florida, currently drives a bright red convertible and has been cruising the streets for 90 years. Nowadays, he mostly goes for a spin in his neighborhood and likes to go on joy rides with 99-year-old fiancee Anita, who agrees that Joe is a good driver. But she told Inside Edition she has some reservations. #InsideEdition

Joe Newman died on July 10, 2021, at the age of 108, he sounds like he lived his life to the fullest.

In 1964 I became friendly with a gentleman who was 105. He was caring for his 99 year old brother who had Alzheimer's. The two of them lived together without any support. He kept his house and garden in immaculate condition. Cooked all their food, etc. His mind was very sharp. His movements in no way seemed old. He told me about a conversation he'd had with his grandmother when he was a child ... in which she'd described her childhood. He remembered every word of her conversation. I listened to him for nearly an hour repeating what she'd said to him about her upbringing in the 1780s.

Joe Newman passed away July 10, 2021 at the ripe age of 108. His late fiancé joined him on February 3, 2023, she was 102 (almost 103).

At the age of 103, he purchased the red Mercedes. He once said “If I’m not doing something, I might as well die”. He continued driving until March 2020.

Joe and Anita enjoyed going out to operas and ballets together. ❤
