Unsurprising. The Exalted Bloodletters have 13 Bonus vs Infantry so for the purpose of this fight, their Melee Attack is 55 and Weapon Strength is 57. The Exalted Bloodletters have a 52% chance of hitting while the Hammerers have a 47% chance. In addition, both units are AP but since Exalted Bloodletters don't wear much armor, the AP of the Hammerers is mostly unhelpful while it is very helpful to the Exalted Bloodletters.

Oh well, at least the true dwarven counter to exalted bloodletters is a gun line.

So the magical melee attack infantry having to do a "tactical retreat" doesn't cause too much pain, I guess.

CA should make Hammerers a tier 3 unit. I'm glad they gave them buffs, they are better than they used to be, but there's hardly much reason to recruit hammerers when you can get ironbreakers instead. If you made them tier 3, and perhaps 100-200 gold cheaper, they'd be more relevant. They are a good counter to chaos units with physical resistance thanks to their (newly given) magical attacks.

Underwhelming. Their hungering blades of whatever ability takes way too long to kick in. That's why Hellforged Hosts are so dang good.
