"I have taken a test and I passes so I can tell when someone is lying"
-"Ok.Cool. but I'm not"

It's almost impossible to detect lies when you don't know the person's baseline (their default behaviour when they are telling the truth).

The scenario is also framed so that there are only rewards and no consequences to lying.

It also doesn't help that you're only asking a single question and the conversation ends immediately after that question.

The problem is our goal is trying to detect lies instead of trying to discover the truth.

Asking "Did you cheat?" can be very accusatory and it usually conveys that you don't really care about them.
In the case of children, it usually means they won't feel bad about lying to you.

We should be asking "What did you do after I left the room?". We would then ask them to elaborate on the details, the reasoning behind it, and how they felt during that time.

If they get defensive or angry after a few questions, then that's usually a good indicator that they're trying to hiding something.

this reminds me of that show Lie to me on netflix, which I think got cancelled. It messed up my interactions with people because I'd always check to see if they were lying.

What if I TOLD someone I lied but I didnt LIE so wouldnt that make me a liar, But what if you're joking or just being sarcastic with someone is it different there? Cause I joke a lot with my friends which in essence can be lying when you are talkin to em but its nothing malicious or hidden xD

So...Pinnochio is based on scientific facts. When you lie, your nose does get longer...sort of.

This was how I broke it down before assuming 1, 3, and 4 all lied. 1 looked real sketchy right after he gave his answer lol but I guess thats just him; 2 had a confident expression and tone while responding quickly, so I knew she wasn't lying; 3 swiftly considered if she was going to lie or not before giving her answer nervously, so it was an obvious lie; and 4 gave his answer while looking nervously to see if the listener bought what he said, so I was fairly sure he lied. So that's 3/4 from a psychology major lol

One way to spot a liar is to look for inconsistencies in what he says.

Yo but like do u ever have those moments in your head where your like:

“OMG I DID IT! But no one is gonna believe me, they’ll think i’m lying, ”

Then when you tell them the truth, you try to NOT act sketchy so it doesn’t look like ur lying bc it SOUNDS like ur lying then end up actually acting sketchy-
