Totaly wrong. The DAnes got there name long before. And MARK means field or land. So it's the fiels of the Danes. The land of the Danes. So DenMark. You can say border but no. It's the land who belong to the Danes.

There is an old folktale, that speaks of a time long before the Vikings, where some tribes in the southern part of the Danish Jutland, were under Attack by germanic tribes. They called out for help, and a King from another region came and helped them hold the enemy back. This King was named Dan, and to thank him for his help, the crowned him King of their region too, and then the lands were united. And they then named this new land Danmark, meaning Dan’s Mark, or in english, Dan’s Land/Field

When i went to school we were taught that it¨s called Danmark do to a guy named Dan who had a filed (mark), hence Dans mark' = Danmark. means "Dans field", but to be honest, it is most likely not true.

Mark also means Ground in Swedish so it might technically be named The Ground of the Danes

Danes comes from the proto Norse word "tán" meaning "flatland". Danes mean Flatlanders. Denmark means "The Borderlands of the Flatlanders"
