Hellraiser Ending Explained

The first "Hellraiser" film to have a big studio distribution has finally been released after more than 20 years. It is a breath of fresh air to see Pinhead and its gang of Cenobites return, even though we would have liked to see them in cinemas rather than on Hulu. Most of the franchise has been reduced to low-budget direct-to-video schlock. But it is irrelevant because what counts is that they are back in all their grotesque magnificence.

The ending isn’t complicated. He chose power, so leviathan made him a cenobite. Pinhead even says something along the lines of you will have the power to create new experiences with the flesh or whatever. Cenobites have the ability to summon chains and wires and all other supernatural stuff, so when asking for power you become a cenobite which means you are powerful at the cost of being in pain for eternity.

You didn't explain and for those who didn't understand the ending, it's plain and simple: *he was transformed into a Cenobite.* Pinhead told him that our power lie in dominance and he will be able to wield that power by giving him the "ultimate gift."

The movie can be summarized to the main girl just making nothing but bad decisions throughout the entire movie and everyone else having to pay the price for her bad decisions.

He sought power and domination, so he was gifted servitude. What one seeks, they are given the exact opposite. Pleasure becomes pain, joy becomes sadness, etc. I love it.

I didn't make the connection that Riley was essentially walking away from an addiction with her decision with the box. Good analysis.

Voight was the only cenobite that I found really eerie because he wasn't covered in a polished plastic costume; it was the real body of the actor just with some foundation on which gave him a realistic eerie appearance.

I wasn’t expecting much out of this when I chose to watch it but I got to say this has been one of the best reboots in years IMO

*At the end of the movie I was hoping they would've shown us more of leviathan then when they hit us with that ending scene I was so damn happy*

The new Hellraiser is INCREDIBLE. It's masterclass in how you do a reboot.

The things this 'explanation' gets wrong:
- The priest doesn't say they noticed Voight's gifts, but that he'll know THEIR finest gift. He's not being tortured for all eternity, he's being transformed into one of them. It's not a punishment for being evil, but a reward for getting to the last configuration.
- Not only can their gifts be swapped, they can ONLY be swapped. Voight wants to return the gift of Liminal (sensation) and undo what was done to him, but he can't - he can only accept an exchange, so he accepts Leviathan (power), once again not understanding what it is that they're really offering.
- The priest doesn't chastise Riley for rejecting a gift and choosing an ordinary life. The priest accepts Riley's choice of Lament (life). Riley has chosen a different kind of pain.

My theory and I'll start with my favorite quote in the movie:

"There is no retreat once a threshold has been crossed. All you can do is search for greater thresholds"

It's interesting because this is a coldhearted selfish man who crossed dangerous thresholds in his life, kept pushing boundaries and had an insatiable taste for more, I took it as he, in the end in the presence of that grand light which to me appeared to be an all seeing eye of sorts became a power source for all the configurations, a crucified battery in eternal torment being reflected by the god eye light, or maybe yes it's the transition into another cenobite apostle, some will say they get the opposite of what they desire but it seems clear that words are simply words, that they hold many meanings and interpretation - all relative to the control of the cenobites

Another quote:

"Our power lies in dominance, in the sovereignty of anguish, and now it will be yours to wield "

That statement makes me lean towards transition into one of them because of the word wield, as in what one would USE, to possess.

He was no longer in any pain once his eyes changed and he transformed

Have loved the franchise for many years and this film was a lot better than the last 6 or 7 films by far. The effects were so good

He looks so happy at the end. I like stories with a happy ending.

It’s sad because if Riley would’ve taken the gift to resurrect Matt, Matt probably would’ve been brought back as a Cenobite. All those configurations have a painful price

I really enjoyed this film. I think it was great the acting, the music (using original music score), the blood and gore was sensible, and I enjoyed how the story fit together at the end.

I feel that the story would have been a trillion times better if she had starting sacrifising her friends and at the end had a turn of heart. Brilliant writing in comparision to the actual story.

I'm pretty sure that Lazurus/resurrection would of resulted in her brother being resurrected as a cenobite

Ngl I was disappointed with how nothing scary and disturbing really happened in the movie I expected way more gore and torture

Leviathan certainly didn't see him as a toy.He was made into a Cenobite. Leviathan only does that to the very few.
