I think most of the people commenting are forgetting something. He posted this because he COULD do it. Yes you can go buy an antenna but you will not get the satisfaction of tinkering and making something yourself that works. I appreciate the ingenuity here from the video poster. Try it folks, you just might enjoy trying to make one.. And that is the true gift.

I have 30 yrs in Electronics and can guarantee this will work no better than Dollar Store Rabbit Ears. Might be a good learning tool.

Congrats. You spent a few hours creating some ineffective rabbit ears and figured out how to hook 2 of them together.
You just saved $10.

Despite the negative comments, this was an excellent demonstration.
People need to realize that if the excrement hits the wind machine (S.H.T.F.) this will be very helpful, not necessarily for T.V. but for a radio antenna (HAM or C.B.). Not this exact antenna, but the concept can be modified.
Thanks for the video!

I was under the impression that a “hack” is something relatively simple, easy, and inexpensive. In this case, I think the hack is to go buy an antenna… or just go outside and do something other than watch tv.

I love the preview, it shows just a few simple items needed, then when you watch the video,
there are all kinds of additional things that must be done.

It works! But with a small addition - you need to put a hot dog inside the magnet.

Yeah works good when someone is in the background with the remote for wifi.

How many people on here have followed his instruction and actually built this and it worked? Where is he located? He only clicked on 3 channels before the video ended??? Didn't say how many were in that area or how many he actually picked up!!?😳 or if they all stayed solid or faded out next day or during a storm.
Why don't he build me one and send it out to me because I have learned over the years that many antennas are trash! I have a flat antenna (AS SEEN ON TV), and it does nothing, I have a cheap walmart antenna that they are selling now with short rabbit ears and cheap parts which is more junk. I have s large rooftop antenna that rotates and it only got 3 channels. Then, I got a walmart standard antenna with a flap moveable piece in the middle, with a knob and the longer rabbit ears that they used to sell (RCA) which is not powered and bought a tall wire thin 5 feet tall rack and sat it on top aiming at the wall and near 2 windows on the South side of the house, and it works great (it is not powered) and I bought an antenna with 2 long rabbit ears with a a middle moveable piece, and a tunning knob that also has a powered plug and a booster built in and THAT ONE ALSO WORKS All the channels we have come in!!!! It also has to do with location and if you have a clear view or

You trick us making it seem so easy in the preview but this is more effort than it seems at first

And just seems like alot of work for something so cheap and easy to find.

The magnet makes no difference. Just put a few inches of wire in the socket on the TV and you'll get stations if the transmitter is local.

Congratulations, you made a set of rabbit ears. They were invented at least 60 years ago, probably closer 70. That's an awful lot of time and effort to make something that you can buy for $20, and it won't look so hackerish. It will all be encapsulated in a neat and tidy package. All you have to do is open the box, take the antenna out, thread the coax into the port on the TV, plug the transformer into the wall outlet, position it and orient it toward the signals that give the best reception, then dial it in with the extendable and pivoting "ears". After that, all that's left to do is set the TV to scan for channels. From the time you open the box until the TV has stored the channels is under five minutes. Honestly, you probably spent more for the coax cables that were sacrificed, the signal splitter, the barrel connectors and the sleeve connectors to build this than an antenna would have cost. Seriously, if you can afford to build this, then you can afford to go buy a proper antenna.

I used to hook a cable to a barbed wire fence for the radio. Picked up so many channels that it was hard to listen to just one but needs to be unhooked before a storm.

100% perfect but instead of Useing a utility knife, I use a cable splicing & stripping tool kit that I bought from Amazon, nuff-said 😊

Each dipole going through a splitter which already has a 50 ohm balum with a 3db loss seems lossy at best and then through another Balum seems redundant. One dipole with larger wire for increased Bandwidth would work much better. Additionally, a circular antenna with reflector would work even better. This cracks me up.

Great idea. Too bad the stuff on TV today is junk.

So he made an indoor antenna that works in a strong signal area. There are a number of good one on the market now and you won't have to take a chance slicing your finger.
