Watch the take off and landing of two B-52 Stratofortress at RAF Fairford in England. A large vapour cloud is created by the 60 year old engines as the bombers accelerate.

All four B-52s are with the 2nd Bomb Wing, Air Force Global Strike Command at Barksdale Air Force Base. They have deployed to RAF Fairford, a dedicated heavy bombers base for the US Air Force in Europe.

The B-52 Stratofortress has been in service with the US Air Force since 1952. The latest variant, the B-52H, went into military service in 1961 and are still flying with the original eight TF-33 engines of the day. The type is expected to still be flying in 2050, as the B-52J, after receiving new engines and work to update the aircraft for the 21st century.

I'm still amazed that I watched B52s take off from Fairford during the Gulf war on live bombing missions and 33 years later I see them taking off again, still in service!! Just worrying that this could be the portent of more serious developments in Ukraine.

I hope the new Rolls-Royce engines sound as good as the T33's

Those are not 60 year old engines. Also, new engines have just again been developed to upgrade the entire B52 fleet, coming soon to a carpet bomb run somewhere..

I lived near the base for many years, and they were a frequent visitor back then. Less so these days.

You know the engine puts out so much thrust it does that it's not damaged

Marvellous sight! By the way, back in 1983, I was lucky enough to see the space shuttle Enterprise land - piggy-back at Stansted Airport... 😊

I guess that reverse thrust is not practicable with the close pairing of the engines, and hence the braking parachute.

When you see, that amount of airpower, it mean's your whole game is over. and there's no going back a step this power is the Amen step
