Changing stereo to dual-mono in Adobe Premiere Pro

Premiere Pro likes stereo audio to remain stereo by default but you have complete control to change individual files or the fundamental way in which Premiere Pro imports stereo files so that they always behave like dual-mono files.
Final Cut Pro 7 users should really think about making dual-mono the new default to mimic what they've been used to.

Good info! FYI the audio setting to select how Premiere imports tracks (mentioned at 5:00 in the vid) is now under the Preferences/Timeline section (at least on Mac).

Thank you for this useful tutorial. I wish I had watched it before starting the editing of my clips. Now that they are already well sliced up on my timeline, is there a way of fixing this? What I had done is leaving my files in stereo but excluding the left channel which was recorded with shotgun and captured a lot of noise.

Helped me figure out how to get shotgun mic and lav on Sony FX3 (for Premiere Pro) ... from Stereo to dual mono. Had to do first episode with goofed audio due to this issue, but after finding your video, was able to correct it.

@VideoRevealed  exactly what i wanted to hear. Could you please confirm and help to clarify the following case of mine:

I recorded with XLR condenser mic the voiceover. But it was recorded on stereo (or standard) track in Premier Pro. As I understood you, it is not a big deal. And all I need to do is - to create 2 mono tracks, to put the voiceover files on them, to pan 1 left and 1 right for the good wide-stereo-like base and render in stereo to have it as a well sounded stereo product with a proper sound.

Also, when you EXPORT/Render you'll have an option under AUDIO to render as MONO.

I have to edit a project thats already in the timeline 700 plus clips is there a way I can change these stereo track channels to mono track channels in one go or do I have to slog through all the clips one by one? Great tip thanks in advance.

I am using 14.3.0 The preference to always use mono is not there. How do I set it up to always use mono. I have a camcorder connected to a soundboard with two xlr connectors. From the soundboard I have all vocals on one channel and music on the other.

That's great thanks. Unfortunately my current version of premiere has a bug in which there is not OK button to confirm the convert to mono audio, it's so infuriating!

in your professional opinion is it better to record (specifically adr) in mono or stereo? will mono not come out of both channels anyway?
