Adobe Premiere Stereo audio showing mono on meter

I've been having a strange problem where stereo audio is showing up with both channels looking mono on the meter. All my channel mapping looked right. So after some struggle, I found that the problem was buried in sequence settings upon sequence creation. Hopefully this helps others with the same issue. Not sure why default settings are set like this on premiere, but pretty annoying.
