There might be a new crowd in town, but they're not to be underestimated.

The Gilded Age begins in 1882 with young Marian Brook (Jacobson) moving from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after the death of her father to live with her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Baranski) and Ada Brook (Nixon). Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?

Stream The Gilded Age Mondays at 9pm on HBO Max.

Peggy obviously comes from money 💰 the Russells are new money. This show is very intriguing, I'm enjoying it.

Not feeling this whole Tom and Marian romance they are forcing on us....

Sir Julian Fellowes has a brilliant mind, and definitely a master at character development. I know we are in for some dramatic plot twists. Gilded Age = Dirty Money, so give us that and a whole lot more.
I hope they don't drag the story line - just get straight to the point. Also please, don't over-do the love story angles too... please, unless it involves treachery and backstabbing!

Peggy and Agnes are my favorite characters currently.

This episode 3 is spectacular, I find Mrs. Morris and her snob gangs are annoying but I also can't help pity Mr. Morris, it is funny how to think these conflicts all started by women and their egos.

it's not Edit Wharton but it reminds me of her books |- I enjoy this so show much.

May I ask anyone know the background music? Thank you so much.

I wonder who, and even if, this show will have someone play the historic figure of Hetty Green. I would love to see how Mrs. van Rhijn would deal with her (LOL).

I know it’s different but I honestly feel like Mrs Russell is like Cora’s mum from Downton !

I know we're supposed to be sympathetic to the Russells and be pro new money but I love Aunt Agnes and I'm Team Old Money...Mrs. Russell is just trying too hard

Lots of attention to detail but alas the accents of the era and class would be difficult for today's audience to understand. Read a novel of the age to get an idea of the flow of language.

This show is just so sumptuous I can’t stand it!

After just the second episode I quit watching. It's basically the 80's tv show DYNASTY but set in the late 1800's.

I wish that instead of showing the lazy stereotype of struggling African Americans, this show had gone further to show some of the real elite African American families that existed at the time in New York. An example would be the Downing dynasty, which literally created the concept of Oyster fine downing houses in New York City and was fabulously wealthy and sponsored by the city's leading families and European royalty.
