The Gilded Age begins in 1882 with young Marian Brook (Jacobson) moving from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after the death of her father to live with her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Baranski) and Ada Brook (Nixon). Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?

The way the last episode ended with Mrs. Russel being ushered out of Beechwood was absolute gold. This show is so brilliantly written. It reminded me of when Mr. Darcy arrives early to Pemberley and happens on Eliza touring the estate! All this fun and intrigue wrapped up in a deliciously decadent style. I can't stand the inevitable wait for season 2 after the finale.

I’ll bet Marion’s dad left her an inheritance. Her lawyer is lying and pretending she’s poor, so she doesn’t realize he’s a gold digger. Once they’re married, he’ll mysteriously discover assets her father left to her in his will. That’s my fan theory.

If the season finale isn't an extra long episode like the first episode was then I don't know what I'll do. I understand they all can't be an hour, but Downton usually had longer first and last episodes of each season so hopefully The Gilded Age does the same.

The ending with Mrs Russell being escorted out of Mrs Astors house was brilliant. It was so comedic

I love this show and am so sad that the final episode for the season is next week, I really look forward to Mondays to watch this. My favorite part are the costumes and sets, I just drool for all the lavishly embellished gowns with their big bustles. The women make the wearing of the bustles seem so natural and they seem to flow and not be so heavy laden as I imagined from the history books. The sets are also fantastic and after hearing the set designer interviewed he said that his main job was to scale down the sets from what they were really like during the gilded age. If you look at vintage photos of the decorated rooms of the period you can’t help but notice that there is not an inch of empty space everywhere was statues and doily’s and pictures on the walls 4 pictures high in layers on top of each other. They really made these sets look glamorous for our contemporary eye.

I checked and Downton Abbey was 9 episodes per season as well! I too wish there were more! and I wish we knew when Season 2 will premiere! I hope the series has at least as many seasons as Downtown did!💞

I saw a documentary here on YouTube that explained the feud between Mrs Astor and Mrs Vanderbilt. It has the ball trap that Mrs Vanderbilt set to get Mrs Astor. Since Mrs Russell is based on Mrs Vanderbilt, and this promo shows Mrs Astor visiting Mrs Russell, I believe that the show will tell the true story.

I am so ready!! This is going to be soo good!
What I have learnt about this infamous ball was that it was so extravagant that literally all one could talk about was this ball. The newspapers covered the event like their lives depended on it and it was going to be the most talked about event. Everyone got an invitation, except for Mrs.Astor and her daughter. ( DRAMA)
The Vanderbilt Ball reportedly cost 6 million in today's money!

The ending of the last episode was PHENOMENAL! I will be sad to see this season come to an end, but I'm so glad we'll be getting another. :)
