EXTRA SMALL Tiny House Built by Young Firefighter – FULL TOUR

Brett built this modern ultra tiny house on evenings and weekends (while also working a full-time construction job AND working as a rural firefighter). It measures just 10' x 16' but it packs a lot into a microscopic space, including a double murphy bed, a galley kitchen, and a luxury glass shower. With a window in the front door and a window at the back, there's plenty of natural light coming into the home, and there's actually some decent storage in here with a pantry, a closet, and space above the murphy bed as well.

You can find out more about Brett's Tiny House for Sale here:

To maximize the living room space, Brett has collapsible furniture that folds flat so that the murphy bed can come down on top of it and create a bedroom in no time at all. He also included some clever and unique design features like the built-in charging stations on either side of the bed, and the light in the shower niche.

We were especially inspired to hear Brett's story about how he sold his first tiny home build in order to pay for his tuition to become a firefighter. He's an impressive and talented guy and we can't wait to see what he builds next :)

Well built but I’m confused why the toilet is a focal point of this house😅

It's always fun seeing how people design small living spaces. I would have a permanent bed and a computer desk, smaller shower. I like a lot about this design but having lived in a tiny home, I would want to design it myself to fit my own needs.

Hey Brett! From another building professional here, I have to say the tile work is fantastic. I love the grain matching on the cabinets. Choosing high quality materials like the rock wool insulation, are super nice touches as well. You clearly have a talent for this. Keep it up!

Looks cozy, I like it, but I'd move the stove top over slightly away from the wall.

Consider a potable water hose for the main line into the home. Some "garden" hoses still contain toxins. (Read the lable when buying your hose.) 💕🌞🌵😷

Props to anyone who goes ahead and builds a tiny home, its cool to do a project like this. That said, I'm confused as to why he used glass in front of the toilet (kitchen and toilet with no visual block between them... 🤢) and such a small window in the main living area... not even a skylight right? It doesn't really make the best use of space and light imo.

Wow, hats off for this build. To do this (practically) on your own, respect. Great design on the out and inside!
I would personally put the toilet and shower against the short rear. Place the murphy bed at the front with a fold-out dining/work table at the bottom (folds out when you fold the bed), plus fold-out chairs you can hang on the wall.

Very well done. I'm a firefighter and veteran, and I live in a 16'x16' quanset.

Really admire anyone that attempts this. Glad he's dedicating his time. But I see multiple things that could be improved. Shower should be half the size with one pane of glass. Reposition toilet forward with plywood wall for privacy and add storage above toilet. The long shower inset with lights could be frosted glass instead letting more natural light in. There's really no need for vanity in living area. Concrete style sink in kitchen is sufficient. Add microwave with fan instead of just a fan. That way you're adding usability and eliminating an appliance. I'd consider replacing the back window with another door so one could theoretically build a private small porch or balcony off the back. Add a built in desk with storage above on backside of toilet in the now larger living space if the shower is half the size. You could put a chair there too and not have to move it for the Murphy bed. But lots of great ideas with a bit more refinement. Congrats.

I like it. The only thing I would change is the swing of the door. I worry that the doorknob will strike the glass and shatter. If the door swings the other way, it looks like it may hit the counter. But I'd rather have a straight entry than stepping around the swing of the door with my arms filled with groceries. Maybe the door just needs to open out. A door that opens out is also more secure. In your next build consider a covered porch as nobody likes fumbling at the front door with a bag of groceries in the rain. 💕🌞🌵😷

Really lovely home. Wonderful craftsmanship and I loved the lightness of it. For me personally, with such a small space it seems like a lot of square footage went towards the bathroom area which is where one spends the least amount of time. Also, he mentioned the space could be used by a couple, but there seemed to only be room for one chair? But again, it's a wonderful result and I'm guessing that if he keeps building more units he may decide to make some tweaks.

The firefight could purchase cheap land and build tiny houses on it to rent. For example, an area for skiing during the winter months or camping.

Oh I love this!
Not sure about having the vanity in the living room/bedroom though. They still have to leave the toilet area to wash up, i'd probably just use the kitchen sink, or put the vanity in the shower space, maybe put up a flip down floor in there too so they're not stepping down onto shower tile. I'd set this up with solar in an instant.

Seriously, I can imagine a few of these on some property, he should buy some land and set a few up!

$67, 000 Canadian! Certainly affordable for many of us.

Thank you!

Very nice tiny home, well done. You can get a type of glass electrically obscured instantly, in fact can select opacity level like dimming a bulb. Might be useful for the bathroom

This would be a great idea in a backyard to rent out for students or single folks. They have all the necessities.
