Throughout the centuries there have been many Kings and Queens of England and Britain who experienced very painful deaths. King George IV was the successor to George III, and he was a man who quite literally ate himself to death. George IV was known for excessive consumption of alcohol and also food, to the point where he was drinking heavily and eating a huge amount of food for his breakfast. His weight ballooned, but despite not being the most well liked King in British History he managed to help see of Napoleon during his time as Regent for his father.

But King George IV in his final years spent a lot of time inside of Windsor Castle, and he then became a recluse continuing to eat heavily. He could not manage to walk up the stairs, and he also could not cope without the help from his servants. But early in the morning of the 26th June 1830, George IV died at Windsor in a very painful few hours.

I really wish my history teacher at school, had made history as interesting as you do, personally choosing to study sciences, but years following those school years, I’ve developed an interest in what has gone on in the past, so again thank you very much

Good document about George IV the Regent King! Using this for a studying lesson, fabulous and easy to understand. George's health in his final years sounds absolutely horrible. The wheelchair to SLEEP in would be so uncomfortable. And getting a cough everytime you lay down? Also, losing breath with a simple walk? Or even asking for medicine every hour? Tumors, infections, bleeding? Ouch. That sounds nasty.

As an American, I can relate. Food is awesome! But to eat to excess too often will kill you. It must have been really difficult for a king to manage his urges and desires when he was given the life of the 1% on a platter daily.

He was portrayed so well by Hugh Laurie in BlackAdder the Third, yet he was (probably) one of the most disgusting people to ever sit in the British Throne. The UK was well rid of him and was quite blessed to have William IV and Victoria to follow.

as an American, I have an understandable disdain for Hannoverian psychopaths... chin chin, Georgie, don't look too sad, your progeny would get to keep their empire for another 200 years

George lived a destructive life to his body, and in the final parts of his life he regretted his actions because of what it did to his health at the end. You reap what you sow

HE had become embittered, desparing and depressed. Comfort eating and drinking gave him some respite from such feelings, as it does so many people to this day. The story of this mans relationship (or LACK of it) to his wife and eventual Queen, Caroline of Brunswick, is one of the most funny/appalling episodes in British royal family history.I am AMAZED that more people don't seem to know of the venom, spite, pettiness and utter HATRED that developed between these two. They were every bit as bad as each other despite being cousens and it was George's decision to marry her so he brought the most miserable marriage any man can imagine down on his own shoulders. Add to that the tragic death of his only child (after she herself had just given to his stillborn grandson)and i think you may have at least a modicum of pity for George IV. His dead child, Charlotte, princess of Wales was heiress to the throne and would have reigned instead of Victoria. Wealth, power, gaurantee of happiness!.

He had the most enthusiastic ambitions to be a good King.
