The PAINFUL Life and Death of Queen Anne

The last of the Stuart monarchs to reign was Queen Anne. She is best remembered for being the one who achieved a successful union between England and Scotland in 1707, and also during her reign the War of Spanish Succession came to an end. She was a popular Queen even when she was coronated following the death of King William III, but throughout her life she suffered greatly with ill health, failed pregnancies and conditions that caused her significant pain. She grew very ill in her 30s, and she died at the age of 49 at Kensington Palace on the 1st August 1714. But what happened during her life, and why was she in such poor health?

How she was able to focus on her reign while enduring so much loss, illness, heartbreak and no heirs. Sad!

Queen Anne deserves more attention, she's so often forgotten besides being the predecessor to the Hanoverian kings.

It is so sad how she suffered all that!! Illness and disappointments and deaths of loved ones are too much to endure for a person 😞 No wonder she was not in a good shape most of her life!

Quite a sad life.
Many critic her reign and comment that she was not a suitable fit. To be honest I think she did the best she could under the circumstances. Miscarriages, death of her children that she did have, along with constant physical illness it is unfair to be negative about her. She is very under rated and deserves more attention because in my opinion she was a woman of great MENTAL strength!

I feel sorry for Anne, all those babies were lost, having so much pressure to run the country, give birth to an heir as well as be fair on England and Scotland

It doesn't matter what you have when sick like that. Poor woman.

She is so simple and soft hearted in her potrait. No heavy jewellery and extravagant dresses. Her face looks sad without an ounce of arrogance. Perhaps her health issues kept her grounded. She's a significant monarch yet understated.

Poor poor Queen Anne. I recall when King Henry the 8th, Queen Jane Seymore and King Charles the 1st tomb was opened during Queen Victoria's time, one of Anne's many stillborn babies' tiny coffin was atop of Jane's coffin.

Some believe that Anne might have been a Lesbian. She was best friends with Sarah Churchill and they were very close. Historians think Sarah might have been Bisexual. Anne was married and cared for her husband; but that doesn’t mean she romantically loved him. I’d love to see a video about Anne’s relationship with her husband, Sarah and Abigail Hill.

I know she had terrible health
And infant mortality
What sort of medical conditions would result in losing 18 children?

It really sounds as if she had kidney disease and quite possibly was diabetic. Poor woman ... what a terrible way to go.

It's hard to grasp how such an un healthy woman could be so remarkably beautiful (at least in portraiture).

I had gout in my foot it was horrendous 😫 took awhile to heal. I can't imagine having it in the 1600s.

I find it interesting that Queen Elizabeth I was reluctant to name her successor, James VI of Scotland, who was a Stewart. Both the Tudors and the Stewarts reigned over England about the same amount of time, Tudors for 115 years and Stewarts for 113 years. I know that the Stewarts reigned in Scotland for centuries. I find it interesting that James II was a lot like his father, very arrogant. One would think that he would have learned a lesson because of his father's beheading. I wonder what would have happened if his son by Mary of Modena had been about to have been the heir instead of Mary and then Anne. I have to give it to Anne. She was plucky. Just an added note, I attended Queen Anne High School in Seattle Washington. It was named after her.

Too much stress and pressure… both personally and politically. It’s just so sad . It’s a shame her life was wrought with so many health issues.
