You are so right. I wrote my query letter and 'blurb' before I wrote one sentence of my manuscript. A synopsis kept me on track of my original goal. Amnesia can arrive when you are slogging away for a year or so., and you can get lost in the woods. Finding your way out is another matter. Tangents are tempting.
Having said that, there is no point in having a baited hook if you 'aint got the strength to reel the fish in; gut it, cook it and serve it. A delicious reward for all your efforts. Now, the trick is to get readers to your table and make them salivate in anticipation of what they hope will come.
It isn't nice to disappoint them.

so how do you build a fan base if you are using a pin name i plane to use one and know nothing about social media others then watching youtube my brother does websites for a living so that part wouldn't be the problem but I'm not even used to talking about my work
