Completely disagree. One should never encourage customers to pre order regardless of the situation. You will lose very little not pre ordering and you will be able to find the game day 1 on the shelf or your consoles store if everything looks great post release / reviews.

FromSoftware has never let me down, but I feel so bad for them. Due to the state of the gaming industry, preordering (especially a collectors edition) is just way too risky.

I've only ever preordered 2 games. The first Mass Effect Andromeda, which convinced me I'd NEVER preorder again. However I'm a little slow, thus I broke that rule and preordered Cyberpunk 2077...I think I've finally learned my lesson, No preorder's EVER!

Never pre order a game. Even if it's good, don't let their investors think these awkward monetization practices are 100% welcomed and accepted.

The last game I pre-ordered was Breath of the Wild. Absolutely zero disappointment, beautiful game launch. I learned my lesson on pre-orders before and after that game though. We all know there have been PLENTY of god awful, cash grabbing, unfinished greedy game launches.
But Elden Ring has given me the same feeling, and shown the same trust, for a company that the Zelda Team at Nintendo gave me 5 years ago. I happily pre-ordered Elden Ring, and I don’t regret it. And I know that PERSONALLY I will not be disappointed. Just like when I Pre-ordered BotW years ago.

Also, pre-ordering is like giving a free pass to companies to release games full of problems. I mean, you already gave them your money, so they can solve the issues later

I mean, I loved all FromSoftware games so far and I'm optimistic about Elden Ring being a masterpiece as well, but you should never preorder any video game no matter the circumstances. It's also not like they'll run out of copies in this day and age.

Only games I have preordered are Miyazaki’s releases—primarily because I like the art and have collected their art books and statues which after launch they become increasingly hard to find and also more expensive from individual sellers. So far haven’t been let down but we’ll see.
