From 2019-2021, Klei has released a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them."

"Eye of the Storm" is the final installment in this series of updates and adds the Moonstorm event, a surprise NPC character, and the Celestial Champion to the game. This will complete the Mysterious Energy quest which begins with the discovery of the lunar island and completion of all three celestial altars. It is the longest endgame quest in the game and offers a number of unique benefits to your world and character, such as infinite full moon nights, renewable moon glass, and infinite light in the form of a crown and shards.

"Reap What You Sow" is the seventh major release of updates under the Return of Them in Don't Starve Together and replaces traditional farms with a completely revamped farming system which includes tillable farm plots, unique farming equipment, crop displays, and numerous fertilizers. The system is considerably more complex but provides a system for year-round farming and the potential for highly-accelerated crop production.

The debris from the moon didn't just reach the forest. It's influence has penetrated down into the caves as well, not only mutating its already strange occupants, but opening areas that had been long forgotten. Forgotten Knowledge is the sixth major release of updates under the Return of Them theme and adds two new cave biomes: the Lunar Grotto and the Ancient Archives. It also adds several new mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and two crafting stations including another moon altar and a station for crafting natural turf.

Troubled Waters, the fifth Don't Starve Return of Them update, added new ocean mobs, foods, craftables, structures, and eight new crockpot recipes. It also added leafy meat as a crockpot ingredient and renewable volt goat herds.

She Sells Seashells went live in April 2020. An Island fragment of the moon has left a lonely creature stranded. Is it friendly? Time will tell. New features include messages in bottles, the moon fragment island, the Crabby Hermit, Crab King, new seasonal fish, the Wobster and Wobster Den the Winch Boat structure, sunken treasures, and singing shells.

"Hook, Line, & Inker" will be remembered as the big fishing update. We finally have the tools we need to go sailing and fish around literally anywhere in the ocean. This update added over a dozen new ocean mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and tons of new craftable items and structures. Most of these new additions are tailored toward the goal of dramatically expanding the fishing experience in DST.

Here is an overview of what was added in the first update, "Turn of Tides:"

Added a new multiplayer-centric boat mechanic, where players can build and deck out a boat for multiple survivors to travel together on
Added a new Seafaring crafting menu
Added the Lunar Island
Added Enlightenment
Added 3 new Lunar Island biomes, along with new creatures, objects, and craftables

Turn of Tides focused primarily on building the fundamental tech and infrastructure for Return of Them. Since then a significant amount of content has added to both the islands and the sea.

Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer expansion of the uncompromising wilderness survival game, Don't Starve. Now including Reign of Giants; adding new characters, seasons, creatures, biomes, and Giant new challenges to Don’t Starve Together. Cooperate with your friends in a private game, or take your chances with strangers online. Work with other players to survive the harsh environment, or strike out on your own. Do whatever it takes, but most importantly, Don't Starve.

I'd recommend continuing this series for a full completion of year 1, the curveballs from spring and especially summer can be even more challenging to beginners than winter is

Huh. Never thought of luring Deerclops with a sign.
You learn something new everyday, I guess.

I just fought deerclops like a man by luring him to a swamp and letting tentacles do the job for me

You should really continue this guide. I've got 148 hours in DST and learn a bunch from you that I wouldn't have without a lot of dying because I don't have friends that play it.

I've spent SOOO much time being bad at this game (but absolutely having a blast) that only now, after over 300hrs+, i've learned that you can refine a purple gem.

Would love to see an intermediate guide as a followup to this covering more farms and other things to sustain a long term playthrough. That's the part of the game I get stuck on because I don't know what to do next, and a lot of your guides assume a high level of knowledge beyond this beginners guide that I don't have or start with the assumption that I'm much farther in my playthrough (and there's not a lot of guidance on how to get from here to there). I'm not sure how to get from this point to being able to confidently and sustainably tackle big bosses, the lunar island, etc.

Tips:

If you dont have any winter insulating clothing and you're not Wilson, don't worry! A 100% thermal stone is enough for you to travel decent distances, and once it turns yellow you can just burn a tree to recharge it pretty quickly. Since I didn't find beefalo yet on my Warly world I just had to use a thermal stone, and I could travel across half the map while only needing to burn a tree twice.

Another excellent source of food is a volt goat pen! Kill all the volt goats except one, then once its sleeping cage it up with stone walls and a gate. It'll spawn another volt goat every two days, which can be killed for two big meats and sometimes a volt goat horn.

Also, if you're a Warly like me, don't pick cactus for sanity and don't make a shit ton of pierogi. You can't eat cactus and pierogi will have the repeat dish penalty. For healing, instead make a tent at your base for when you want to passively regain health, and only eat three pierogi or two trail mix in each sitting so it doesnt become worthless for the extra repeats.

You should make guide on all seasonal bosses for new players (after all the season beginner guides are done)

Great video! An nsolicited advice from me.
I noticed that you use various skins for buildings and items. I think the introductory videos will be clearer if you use the standard skins instead. The game is kinda hard to memorize even the standard ones.

I've started dealing with Mactusk in the most impractical but amusing way possible... During autumn I build a wall around his base camp and lure a Koalaphant into it. In my experience, one koala is more than a match for Mac, Mac Jr and the hounds they spawn with... though it's not guaranteed to work 100% of the time. Once the carnage is over, pop the fence open and reap the rewards!

during winter you should also farm a lot of ice, for pot filler and to make at least 1 Ice Flingomatic, summer can be a run breaker for newbies if you don't have a flingo

This series is amazing and I'd loved it if you continued. I've been following your tips and tricks for autumn/winter but could really do with a guide through for Spring/Summer as well as I find other youtube videos not as fun to watch as yours. Please keep making this series for beginner noobs like me :(

9:19 I prefer planting the pinecones I got earlier and and making Dearclops destroy the trees. This way, the treeguardians will probably kill him. This method is safer, you won’t waste resources and you’ll get wood and living logs...
