excellent instruction for the novice - your delivery is so straightforward and unpretentious that even I feel confident about employing the basic techniques, and I'm 76!!

Everything considered I think the best move I can make is walking away, or better still completely avoid getting into a situation where a fight is likely to take place.
So far that strategy has served me well.

Position, position, position. In my case that position is 20 miles away from agressive arseholes.

Nice to see a channel exploring Seagal’s Aikido in an interesting, respectful way. Above the Law, Hard to Kill and Marked for Death we’re definitely the three which showcased it best.

The thing Steven Segal always uses before his fights is called a choreographer...

I had the privilege to train under Sensei Fumio Toyoda and Sensei Elliot Freeman also with Sensei Jeff Mullen aka former Tennessee Athletic Commission Executive Director now assistant executive director for the Nevada Commission I miss those days of training. Not trying to brag just proud and happy to be apart of something great and exciting . I enjoy your channel keep the videos coming.

Thank You guys. Sun Tzu said that all war is based on deception, and this was a great example of the art of war in practice.

When seagal started making movies, I think Nico was the first, the way he did certain movies was really good an effective. Before he was a film star, he was a body guard if I remember correctly, he taught cops in the states and army as martial instructor. This is fact, from magazine interviews at the time 1980s. The guy knows his stuff, can't take it away from fame goes to people's heads. You guys show the true essence of the art....keep up the good work, total respect

I was living in Santa Barbara in ‘87-88 when Seagal first broke big. He lived there and had a private dojo where he claimed to train Hollywood stars. He was married to Kelly LeBrock who was so gorgeous and sexy and then he had the #1 action film — he was a huge star basically overnight. And his backstory and his persona were all bullshit. He walked around with bodyguards whom he claimed he needed because of all the wet work he’d done for the CIA. Shit like that. But people loved it! Including me, man. I was 18, 19 and thought he was a bad ass. Loved those first 4 films of his, whatever it was. Especially when he had a real director like Andy Davis. Good old times, man.

For the verbal I’ve heard the phrase, “Who can contend with the man who does not contend”. In other words, if you don’t give anger back, they lose interest in trying to aggrevate you. Good video - thanks for the content.

The reaction time is key plus the element of surprise but yes, a calm focused voice can deceive the opponent too

I know before every fight scene he grabs 4 cheeseburgers and eats them all in under 30 seconds

I was in a movie yesterday and used these techniques. Tomorrow I'm going downtown and if I see someone is making a movie I'll try it again.

Deception is the key. As Miyamoto Mushashi said, "Do not have a depressed spirit. Do not have an elevated spirit. Do not let the opponent see your spirit." The other thing I notice about Seagal's choreography is that he always beats down the opponent's hands and arms before striking them - and only then does he do some fancy aikido move. In other words, atemi - strikes - are the primary element in his aikido - which is how it's taught in Japan, but not so much in the US, probably due to avoidance of lawsuits in the US which would be unthinkable in Japan. This is why aikido can be effective in a street fight - provided it is trained in that manner and trained against a variety of martial arts and street fight styles.
