Luffy has a way of instilling a portion of his own courage in people. It's his actual greatest power, making people believe that not only can they chase their dreams, but also that dreams are still worth chasing

I actually always liked Axe Hand Morgan's design. He's almost a normal dude except for the axe embedded in his arm, handle and all, as if he just shoved the whole thing into the stump. It's cool but also weird and kind of funny, and it sets the stage for the wild character designs that will come later.

If Axe Hand Morgan is one of the weaker designs, I think that's a testament to how great the rest of One Piece is cause I don't think Morgan that bad. He's mid tier at worst.

I think there is some subtle details that really make Axe Hand a good design in my opinion. The fact that his son has a but chin implies that under his metal graft is an embarrassing but him of his own. From that, Axe hand can be understood through his insecurities which his tough persona tries to cover up.

I know Naruto's friendship no jutsu can feel a little silly at times but it's still one of the best part of Naruto and his approach to life. Luffy's gum gum no courage is equally silly and equally important. I love that for them 🥰

The significance of Morgan for me is he begins the trend of basically every named Navyman we see until Loguetown is either cruel, deceitful, pathetic or any combination of the three.

It is fun to look back at the early chapters and where they started to where we are now.

Part of me did ponder if perhaps Luffy’s devil fruit might have constituted to the reason why he can be so influential with others. It was plausible, but since we know his type usually doesn’t work like that, it just shows Luffy’s charismatic personality can be that influential. Even with someone he met just a few chapters ago and likely wouldn’t have even considered going to the execution grounds if he was still the same scared boy he was at the start.

Perhaps the first true example of Luffy’s power. Other than his ability to stretch really good.

I love axe Morgan's design because it telegraphs the core of his character, showing how obsessed with "masculinity" he is, to the point of shaving his head to not show his golden locks, the Ash tray jaw to cover his dimple and even took out his dominating hand just to be more menacing, and yet, it also tells us how his values and strength are jus a front, he is the antithesis to Senior pink amazing character design and backstory

I'd mostly just call Axe hand Morgan's design functional. It delivers what it promises with that name, a low tier villain with enough effort put into him to be distinguished from a regular goon, despite how long it has been and the many great enemies Luffy faces I still kinda remember that random fucker with an ax for a hand

As a kid, Morgan kinda freaked me out
His weird misshapen elbow and the toothed metal jaw left an impression on me, and I dont think it's that weak of a character design
