If you were into standup comedy in the 2000s, you were at least aware of Dane Cook. Even if you weren’t keeping up with the comedy scene, you likely saw him in films like “Good Luck Chuck” and “Employee of the Month.” Indeed, it was a good decade for the comedian, but unfortunately, the 2010s would not be as kind to him.

Times changed, and Dane Cook faded into obscurity. But what exactly could have happened to slow his once-monumental career to a halt? These are the reasons why you don’t hear much from Dane Cook anymore.

Say what you will about Dane, he was on top of the world and the guy was funny. He sure as hell made me laugh. The problem with being at the top is that sooner or later you fall. Happens to everyone that reaches the top. I'll always appreciate his comedy. It's not exactly easy to make me laugh, and the dude made me laugh. So he has my thanks.

Here is the thing Dane built a community going back to the days of MySpace. It took time and he had quite a large following. Consequently, when he started comedy, he already had an audience and it appeared he didn't "pay his dues" like others as he quickly moved to bigger rooms. Comics are BRUTAL and while they may be pals, they also hate it when someone succeeds. Hence, when the "new guy" is doing well, it's time to rip him down. I was not surprised when I fired up the clubhouse and who was here hanging with his fans before a show? Dane Cook.

I thought a big part of his fall was some charity concert. I don't remember what it was for, some disaster or another, but a bunch of popular and classic performers put on a benefit concert. But when Dane Cook took the stage, the feed cut out. A lot of people thought it was technical difficulties until it came out that Cook just didn't want people to see his newer material for free at a charity event, and so had the television cameras stop broadcasting.

I though he was good. Back in the day of CDs the wife and I drove from San Diego to Albany NY, I burned a few of his shows. I haven't listened to him since. But, my memory of the trip had lots of laughter

Dane had an extremely strong beginning. I remember his earliest stuff I thought it was the funniest thing I’d ever seen and it was the only stand up I insisted my parents watch with me. But like almost all artist, they can’t hold up to their opening masterpiece and they kind of ride the fumes of it for a few years with just “okay” stuff.

Dane Cook should relax and stick to acting because he's charming and funny in movies. If he's in the cast, that's more of a plus for me than a negative. I bet he would be hilarious in SNL skits
