I still miss the 20-ish minute On Cars episodes hosted by Brian Cooley...
Any plans on bringing those back?

Seems too complicated and expensive for a low/minimal reward. What ever happened to the automated battery swap station trials? Think they were in Japan??? Made a lot more sense. About the time it takes to fill up with gas the robot would swap your depleted battery with a fully charged one...

Quick change batteries. Most logical solution.

The losses with wireless charging is probably really high and this really only makes sence for Parking spaces or places where you're stuck in traffic on a regular bases like intersections, maybe when the tarmac is due anyway and has to be renewed otherwise I can Imagine it's way to expensive.

the only issue I see with this is that there will be morons that will stop in the middle of the road to charge.

I don’t see this as being a practical solution to range anxiety as the amount of infrastructure in now inductive roads would almost certainly exceed the cost for building a hydrogen fueling infrastructure and the energy lost in the wireless transmission of energy will be sizable and will again remove one of the advantages of BEV have over fuel cell, that being the high energy cost to isolate hydrogen in a manor that is low in carbon waste.

We just passed two initiatives (1A and 5B) for a badly needed expansion of I-25 through an 18 mile section between Monument and Castle Rock, known as "the gap." At the same time, the 50-ish mile trek between Colorado Springs and Denver gives me pause when considering an electric car. Since they are going to rebuild the gap anyway (located about halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs), this might be a great time to install charging pads.

I am happy hearing Cooley's voice.

Cooley was using every ounce of strength in his body - to restrain his skepticism on this "solution"!!

Nice one. I miss your long format shows.

Why don't car companies just build a car with a power generator and save loads of tax payers money which most don't even own an electric car

I can't wrap my head around the EV's for anything other than short trips for work or grocery shopping. Driving one on a long distance vacation? I don't see it.

Fuel cells, baby. Cars produce their own electricity. Strange you didn't mention it.

I think bus stops are more suited for this. A capacitor bank might charge faster than a battery. And busses are so energy inefficient since they must stop and start so frequently their fuel cost high. A hybrid bus with diesel and electric propulsion.

Nice break down, but I'm not sold on this yet. It has potential, but the hurtles you listed are pretty big, especially the uniform charging pad. the company in question might also want to look into designing an after market system that bolts onto existing cars. but, the phrase "pain in the butt" would seem an adept description for such a design.

Another thing you can do is have a standardised battery between cars which is removable and replaced at a “gas” station. Cars drive in, battery is removed and replaced in less time than it takes to fill up a car with gas. Tesla has already demonstrated this.
