2015 Toyota Yaris Highway MPG Test Drive

The 2015 Toyota Yaris is equipped with a DOHC 1.5L inline four cylinder engine that is rated at 106 horsepower and 103 foot pounds of torque. The official EPA fuel economy estimates are 30 city / 37 highway with the five speed manual. With a wee bit of skill and restraint, you can leave those numbers in the dust ... =)

40 to 42 mpg is what I get with my automatic Yaris. driving 55 to 65 mph. If I hit 70mph, then it drops below 40 mpg.

I have a Yaris Hybrid (in Britain we have a hybrid version of the Yaris instead of the Prius C), and so seeing that familiar dash but with a rev counter on the left, instead of the Hybrid Status Indicator, was a little strange.
I wish we had the Prius C over here though, the dashboard and mpg monitoring goodies, are so much cooler than in the Yaris Hybrid, where a lot of it is just lifted from the 2nd gen Prius.

You should check out a Toyota Yaris IA. I test drove one and was seeing 42-43 mpg at 77mph average with the manual transmission.
I bet that figures at lower speeds are eye popping.

Dan, I wonder how much less MPG's you get with the 4 speed auto. Most likely quite a bit less and that is the version most buyers go for. I was getting similar numbers with a new Focus I rented, 6 speed DCT and the RPM's never went past 2.5.

Did you warm the car up first before you did your MPG run? Based on my onboard computer on my Spark and Yaris iA, my MPG are significantly higher coming home than coming out cold from my garage on my 20 mile drive.

Idk why but our old Yaris sedan I had for 4 years got better mpg than the 2015 we got after

Did you ever figure out your mileage at the pump? Dash readings tend to be off most of the time.

This is still a good car though. Toyota knows how to make a good value car.

Dan, why do you suppose you got better MPG numbers with the 2009 you tested back then? You were getting around 50mpg on the highway.

6-Speed Manual should be standard for the Yaris. I wish CVT will be available for the 2016 model.
