Thid monster has 100 hp.

First player up does 70 damage on their turn.

This monster has 200 hp.

"It's more fun when you decide on how many Orcs I put in the room."
I love when my DM does this but I've TPK 3.5 parties due to rolling the worst possible outcomes lmao

As a DM this is actually really accurate

"I gave the owlbear legendary actions."

... Oh that's just rude

Theoretical monster hp hit me where I live. I’m almost certain every DM does it.

I felt the "Be your own worst enemy".
Just like the song "Don't hit me, I'll hit me" lol

I feel like it cheapens the experience to change a creature's hit points or a saving throw role on the fly. Honesty breeds a better gaming experience because it instills a real sense of danger and accomplishment.

I once dealt 1062 damage in a turn. What did I unleash that hell upon you may ask? A peasant who called me “annoying” in the first game of the campaign. Gerald Geraldson XXVIII never forgets…
